Current Employee – been working at The Gap
Pros – flexibility
customer services, sales, and leadership exposure
Cons – limited internal growth
management tend to play the fear card...ie: don't make X amount by the end of Y time, you will only get Z amount of hours next week.
biased - favorable employees based ONLY on the amount of Gap cards you get for your store... NOTHING ELSE matters
Advice to Senior Management – Give credit when credit should be given. A store does not only function by the amount of Gap cards, there's product knowledge, customer awareness, visual merchandising, sales, and leadership potentials.

Current Employee – been working at The Gap part-time for more than a year
Pros – -Most people in my store are very nice, as well as happy and willing to help guide you.
-This is a company where you have the opportunity to move up!
-Amazing discount. 50% off full price!
Cons – -We are often understaffed, which means that at certain times there may be only one employee on the floor!
-Visual displays can be a pain in the butt; we simply do not have time to complete some of the tasks that are sent our way.
-People NEVER get fired, no matter what they do. This leads to gossip, laziness, and other toxic behaviors within stores.
-I have worked at the store 2 years and still make under $9 per hour. Raises are infrequent and tend to only be a few cents at a time.
-We cannot use our discount online. This can lead to some employees returning online products in store and then buying them back with the discount/losing money for our store. I hope upper mgmt eventually allows us to use our discount online so we can combat that issue.
-Some employees are burnt out, probably due to low pay for very hard work.
Advice to Senior Management – Give us more hours! With only 2-3 people on per shift, we cannot be at the front of the store and the back of the store, as well as tending to customers needs, tending to the fitting room, answering phones, keeping the store clean, doing Ship From Store, etc etc etc!
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Former Employee – worked at The Gap for less than a year
Pros – Always busy, get to handle nice clothes, mean employee discount
Cons – Always on feet, easy to get tired after a long day. Customers can be demanding. Display maintenance is both difficult and tedious.

Former Employee – worked at The Gap part-time
Pros – The retail side of Gap offers flexible hours and a good discount. Management was professional, fair, and put in their fair share of work.
Cons – Expect to stay late if you are closing the store. This was expected, as it is working retail. A good deal of pressure was put on "selling" their credit card. Understandable, but in my eyes, a downside from the job.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Former Employee – worked at The Gap part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – -The employee discount
-Your availability and scheduling (very flexible for college students or second jobs--which you'll need)
Cons – -The hours: If you work in a smaller store, you could go weeks without getting scheduled. The company's structure for hours is all about store and overall company performance. Socialism is the best way to describe it. Everyone suffers together or succeeds together. No one if favored or better than anyone else.
Advice to Senior Management – -Many managers play favorites to the point it effects the associates who get scheduled more or have it easier.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
