I have been working at The Gap full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

No shortage of work in a global environment. There are some systems challenges. Good people and processes. Commitment to not over working and giving back to the community.

    Cons

This is a larger company for the area and people can get lost in their careers. Some of the groups do not work in concert with each other. Some time conflicts with HQ and global partners.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be clear and communicate expectations with clear and concise goals.

I worked at The Gap part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Most managers are nice. One is high strung and doesn't truly respect other people's ideas. Crew is pretty cool. Easy dress code

    Cons

No communication on company practices until a situation happens. Never expect to get the more than 15 hrs unless ur full time and there are only like 10 people out of 30 who are full time and even when u budget for 15 hrs you get cut!!!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring so many people and give hrs to those for who want them

I worked at The Gap as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Fair amount of independence as a contractor; plenty of opportunity to grow professionally and no shortage of potential projects; young, smart, vibrant culture. Fully committed to a project's success, demonstrated integrity in keeping past commitments.

    Cons

Overemphasis on cutting business cost at the expense of creativing and best practices; perhaps too conservative where taking risks and thinking outside the box is concerned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that people, not tangible and intangible resources, are a company's true asset. Spread the wealth, be mindful of karma, and nurture the creative spirit.
