I have been working at The Gap full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

No shortage of work in a global environment. There are some systems challenges. Good people and processes. Commitment to not over working and giving back to the community.

    Cons

This is a larger company for the area and people can get lost in their careers. Some of the groups do not work in concert with each other. Some time conflicts with HQ and global partners.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be clear and communicate expectations with clear and concise goals.

I worked at The Gap as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Fair amount of independence as a contractor; plenty of opportunity to grow professionally and no shortage of potential projects; young, smart, vibrant culture. Fully committed to a project's success, demonstrated integrity in keeping past commitments.

    Cons

Overemphasis on cutting business cost at the expense of creativing and best practices; perhaps too conservative where taking risks and thinking outside the box is concerned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that people, not tangible and intangible resources, are a company's true asset. Spread the wealth, be mindful of karma, and nurture the creative spirit.

I have been working at The Gap

    Pros

This is a great starter job, and will teach you about team work and structure. As a middle management job it will provide you security, regularity, and clear expectations. As an executive job... I can't say ^_^

    Cons

not much cultural variety or world experiences will be learned at work, you might get too much regularity

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

set high development goals, even if they are risky. you can afford to try and create outstanding employees; use the HR materials as a guide, but rely heavily on your personal judgement.
