    I worked at The Gap

    Pros

Culture is dynamic and radiant. Lots of opportunity to grow and move internally to support career growth and development. Innovation and creativity is supported and rewarded.

    Cons

Struggling business creates internal churn in order to manage quarterly financials. Main, anchoring brand is being eaten by competitors who offer fashion forward clothes for much less. Company needs to either reduce prices or offer unique, quality style consumers are willing to pay extra $ for. Otherwise, internal churn will continue to lose bright, let talent.

I have been working at The Gap as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Management is generally competent and energetic. Infrastructure and projects managed relatively well with little politics or finger-pointing. Workload is smooth with little need to work nights and weekends.

    Cons

Full-time jobs are hard to come by, and most "employees" are contractors with no perks or benefits. Given the tech boom in the bay area over the last few years, I'm not sure how they expect to keep top performers.

I worked at The Gap as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Fair amount of independence as a contractor; plenty of opportunity to grow professionally and no shortage of potential projects; young, smart, vibrant culture. Fully committed to a project's success, demonstrated integrity in keeping past commitments.

    Cons

Overemphasis on cutting business cost at the expense of creativing and best practices; perhaps too conservative where taking risks and thinking outside the box is concerned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that people, not tangible and intangible resources, are a company's true asset. Spread the wealth, be mindful of karma, and nurture the creative spirit.
