I worked at The Gap full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great perks, work/life balance. The offices, cafeteria and facilities are generally great. Fantastic co-workers as well.

    Cons

Large organization with many layers of management. Office politics seem to hold things up at times. Even simple tasks like getting IT support can be a major headache.

I have been working at The Gap part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Mindless work, great for consistent pay while in college, fairly easy job, 50% discount on clothing which is incredible.

    Cons

I sort of felt like cattle and could not believe the way the managers treated the employees. Although I never experienced this issue directed towards me I felt as if the managers spoke to the employees who were older than them and perhaps did not receive the same college education level they did as second class citizens. It was appalling and uncomfortable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want your employees to great every customer with positivity and joy then you have to start by treating the employees with respect and dignity.

I have been working at The Gap full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great work environment, great teamwork approach, career development is great, training is the best and always available, ROWE is a great perk

    Cons

work-life balance can be difficult, if leadership changes their mind it's expected to make changes regardless of the original plans that were set in place and if it doesn't work out, it ends up being something we did wrong

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

more group outings to promote teamwork across all teams instead of immediate teams. there's no sense of true teamwork across brands.

I worked at The Gap full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people are a pleasure to work with and be around. Work/life balance is good. Company has good values. The work was good experience and I learned a lot.

    Cons

Every year there is major re-organization which is a drag on the employees and consumes a lot of time which could be directed elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None other than it would be nice to have some continuity with management.

I worked at The Gap full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I worked at Gap (Headquarters) for more than 5 years. Very talented people, challenging work, great perks (discount). Trying to be progressive from a "people" perspective - i.e. ROWE / flexible work environment

    Cons

Low on pay, a lot of politics/bureaucracy. Some people have been at Gap Inc. for TOO LONG. Time for more fresh blood.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tone from the top - you need people in leadership roles that people can look up to. You should build in core, fundamental leadership requirements for people at the VP+ levels and not promote people or retain them if they don't demonstrate those competencies.
