I worked at The Grand America Hotel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved working for the hotel. Beautiful property with great amenities. They take care of their staff and know that it shows.

    Cons

Some leadership has been at the hotel since the opening of it and are still stuck in the past. There is a large turnover of employees and they only give you three paid holidays where most other companies give 6 or more.

    Advice to Management

Possibly be more open to the "open door" policy. Listen to your employees and what they have to say rather than trying to find ways to get rid of them because they have a voice.

I have been working at The Grand America Hotel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are great but overworked and stressed.

    Cons

Benefits are not great. No time off (3 paid holidays).

I have been working at The Grand America Hotel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you want to learn about AAA Five Diamond Service, you can get it from this company. High standard and expectations for each employee to uphold the best service standard for all guests in the hotel. People and employees are generally nice to each other seeing as teamwork is highly encouraged for the success of the event.

    Cons

Work is either really really busy or dead slow. Most of the events is depended on wether or not we have a group coming in to the hotel and having a conference or party. If you are scheduled to work that day, don't expect to be able to leave at certain time as events can always extend. Say goodbye to all major holidays.

    Advice to Management

Treat everybody with respect more even if they are temps. and acknowledge peoples hard work better other than just a pat on the back. the high expectations should match the reward of their efforts.

  9. Somewhat chaotic, with poor direction and communication due to unstable management.

I worked at The Grand America Hotel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great reputation. Good experience and exposure to unique foods and upscale items. Occasional celebrity run-ins. Fairly good tips.

    Cons

Management was unstable, it seemed they were unclear on what 'particularly the restaurant,' bar, lobby lounge were supposed to be as far as service, food, and overall perception. Huge egos, tempers to match resulting in improper employee management. Slow times extremely boring and no money.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are the heartbeat of the hotel, even those of us who have menial, jobs. Employees often know what is best when it comes to daily operations. Listen to them and then make decisions. Provide stability and follow through.

I have been working at The Grand America Hotel part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

For the most part, they live up to their standards (which are high). They are listed as a five diamond hotel, and so guests are extremely respectful. Beautiful atmosphere and competitive pay for the industry.

    Cons

The banquet department employs a lot of students and therefore sees a lot of turnover. Scheduling is based on covering events, and so there are no set hours for end of shift.

    Advice to Management

Offer more comprehensive training and regular evaluations.
