Can be fun at times, laid back, but it gets old fast.

I worked at The Grand Del Mar full-time

    Pros

It's not really work, which can be nice. The hardest part is coping with how unchallenging and monotonous it can be.

    Cons

I've never seen so much incompetence at managerial levels. A few are unethical bullies once their superiors turn their backs.
Also, unless you are part of that managerial team, you are a micromanaged voiceless lowly peon. It's fine for high school, but this is not a job for respectable adults.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat subordinates as fellow humans, and with respect. I felt like a first grader sometimes with the way management would talk to me.

I worked at The Grand Del Mar part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Quality training, Elite service, Great tips, Flexible Hours, World class clients, Great memories, Fun and young staff, Resume builder, Fair Pay, Adequate benefits

    Cons

High stress environment, Unrealistic expectations, Complaining clients, Excess spending on non-profit areas, Working on your feet, Had to lift heavy objects, Too focused on standards

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure managers are not contradicting themselves. Often times my manager would ask for three different things to be done all at once. This often made me put menial standards in front of the client experience.

    Pros

Beautiful property, nice benefits, meal every shift, and good tips. The lower level managers are hard working and fair.

    Cons

Hard work is not rewarded and slackers are not punished. The culture of complaining spreads like a virus quickly though the new employees. Most do the bare minimum to get by. The fact that weak employees exist is not in it self a problem. What is lacking is management's ability to reprimand the bad eggs and bring in people who want to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the weak links and reward the hardworking colleagues
