I worked at The Hackett Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

exposure to the best benchmarking material I have seen in 15 yrs in consulting -- but it is now becoming dated

    Cons

most everything else -- sat out the recession there - but as many comments here state - leadership is poor - focused on their own short term needs and goals -- and employees are expendable -- not valued in any manner --- from what I could see from the several years I spent there-- I moved on when there was nothing else to learn -- and our team's pipeline had been dry since late 2012.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

sell to a large firm interested in long term results -- and growing the consulting footprint

I worked at The Hackett Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Defined methodologies and good library of intellectual property. They have put a concerted effort forth to continue to strengthen engagements by leveraging past deliverables and stress continual learning.

    Cons

Billable hours is a constant focus, often have bloated engagement teams where for some their primary contribution is just being there on the clock. I think more focus on lean teams for initial deliverables would leave a better impression and make the follow on work easier to sell.

    Pros

    Competitive salary
Office location (next to Union Station)

    Cons

I came there from a well known, Big 4 consulting firm and the difference was night & day. Other than a slightly higher salary, everything else was worse.....the clients, the work/life, benefits, opportunity for advancement, the people, the training, the networking, the office, and most of all, the work.

You get to do a lot of interesting work. You will learn a ton. Great for the self directed and motivated. Salary is good.

    Cons

Do not invest in employees. No training. Bonus scheme is secret - you don't know how much you can make. Promotions are inconsistent. Work life balance is does not exist.

I have been working at The Hackett Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Hackett has a great reputation for its unbiased independent assessment of Finance processes, HR processes and IT processes. Customers are very interested in the point of view as a tool to aid in setting or validating strategic direction. Projects range for small assessment to larger transformation efforts, but in general the projects are on the smaller and shorter side.
Associates are allowed to have a good amount of independence with their work efforts which can lead to some inconsistencies in delivery.
If you like travel then you will get a chance to do so.

    Cons

If you are looking for a place where you can do larger and longer type of work Hackett is not the place for you. There is a lot of churn going on and the direction of Hackett has changed several times.
There are divisions in other areas of the world, primarily Europe, and the interaction needs to be improved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set a service and product direction for the company.

    Pros

Small company allows you to work with the same individuals on multiple projects. Allow you to work from home if the cliet agrees.

    Cons

Not enough planned training. You may get thrown to the wolves if you want to advance. Not enough focus on the consultants. Look for RIF if you finish a project and there is not another project ready to start.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on consutants life outside of work.

I have been working at The Hackett Group

    Pros

    * Great People
    * Middle managment are easy to talk to
    * Work week is generally Mon-Thur and not required to come to the office on Fridays
    * IP is really good in some areas and it is very informative

    Cons

    * Constantly changing perfromance review process
    * Practice managment constantly changing because COO lacks committment to retaining talented people. In the COO's mind you are just a number that can be easily replaced despite the fact that organizationally we advocate talent management.
    * Organization does not practice what it preaches with regards to Best Practices

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn what talent managment and talent retention "really" mean.
