    Great place to work.

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsOppertunity to learn, and advance your career. In good economic times, management at Hanover was excellent. You are given lead way to run projects as you see fit. You are also supported by upper management with easy access directly to the top.
Compensation is above average. Bonus structure adds real pay offs to succeed.

ConsAs the economy is down, so is oppertunity. Hanover is very dependant on the finacial lending market. They are not diversified.
At the time of my employ, Hanover was expanding expotentially. With this rapid expansion, standards and proceedures never caught up.
Too much central influence on portions of work, and preference to certain sub standard subcontractors.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend more time on regional development.

    Smart People, Good Oppurtunities

    Project Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsHanover can be a very rewarding place to work. Generally the company cares about giving their employees all the tools they need to be sucessful and generally treats them well. The vertical integration that compromises the Hanover buisness model also affords employees a much broader look into the apartment development buisness. Thus providing a more benefial employment experience than one would get if they simply worked for an engineer, contractor, developer, architect, property manager, etc. They also seem to compensate relatively well. Being a small company, it is also easy to get recognized as a smart/motivated/intelligent worker which can be very rewarding.

ConsSometimes different people in different departments get preferential treatment that is quite often unfair. Also, senior management moves very slowly on making important decisions and quite often changes those descisions at the last minute. Making things much more difficult for the average employee.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate more with employees about the direction of the company and new job prospects.

    ProsNice people. Easy going. Understanding

ConsSlow to make decisions. Change the decision 15 times before it is final.

While well informed of goals and objectives, culture is that of putting out fires and working in panic mode.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsWork in teams where members are well informed about status regarding results and objectives. Able to hear and be heard.

ConsVery heavy turnover in management which makes line employees uneasy. Dedicate significant time in developing strategies and programs which never come to fruition because of constant changes and shifts in priorities. This leads to frustration with employees and loss of respect from agents.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop a strategy and stay the course. Reduce number of decision makers in a work group. Actually invest in technology instead of only talking about it.

    Mislead

    Leasing Agent (Current Employee)

ProsThe quality of the product that they offer makes my job easier. Rent free living and a great bonus structure at first were fantastic. The young motivated staff and management make work feel like play.

ConsWith the down turn in the economy the the bonus structure and the rent free living has disappeared. Meager salary was made acceptable and even great with the bonuses and free apartment. With major cutbacks in bonuses and abolition of rent free living the salary has in a sense been cut in half. Half of meager is very little.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand that your policies of treating employees well has made you a dream to work for, but without them this becomes just another job.
