Former Employee – worked at The Hartford full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Bonuses, benefits. Bonuses are handed out yearly based upon score of mid year & increasing those scores through the end of the year review. There is then a pool for the bonuses, depending on how many are still in the role the bonus may be bigger or smaller. Pay is great for LPN's low for RN'S. You have your own cubicle to take calls. Knowledge about disability and FMLA will increase.
Cons – No flexibility of your time. Can only make up a very limited amount of PTO time per month (under 5 hours). The PTO time does include sick days. If you have kids and family this position does not allow flexibility for work/life balance. There is no talking to peers through your day no interaction outside taking call after call. High stress to meet demands of call times, even though you can not control the other person on the other line. Moral can be low with the turn over rate. Training is not consistent base on the information received in the classroom then what it is on the floor.
Advice to Senior Management – As a nurse it is very difficult to not have management that are not nurses. Explaining and presenting changes and critical thinking ideas are not considered and turned down. When making suggestions or questioning protocol you will be considered "rocking the boat" and they will look for reasons to let you go. I was in this position for 4 years and wanted to move onto case management. I had to jump through loops to finally be in the case management position. The dysfunction continued into the case management role. The grass is greener on the other side outside the disability division.

Current Employee – been working at The Hartford full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Benefits are good (paid time off, 401k match, pension).
Work-life balance is great (remote and flexible work options).
Communication is okay.
Cons – The company is poor at execution, so change is very slow.
The management is not adequately developped, so poor management is rampant across the company. Also, it is top-heavy.
The company does a bad job aligning the top levels goals to the lower level employees priorities.

Former Employee – worked at The Hartford part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Healthy, buoyant culture. Very professional but relaxed work environment. Many people I met and worked with spent many, many years at The Hartford and developed close working relationships. I was blessed with an excellent manager (a respected HR leader with high integrity and a superb leadership and mentoring style.) Professional development is a high priority at The Hartford. I remain in touch with a number of Hartford colleagues many years later.
Cons – Honestly, my near 5 year tenure at The Hartford was a consistently positive experience.

Current Employee – been working at The Hartford full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Strong support for alternative work styles such as telecommuting. With some exceptions, achievement is rewarded financially. Has a leadership that is comfortable with change and is aggressively evolving.
Cons – Working for any public company ultimately puts Shareholder value ahead of Customer value. Forced distribution of employee ranking can result in some unintended bad management behavior. IT systems are a major inhibitor to innovation and progress.
Advice to Senior Management – Bite the bullet and spend the billions to re-invent the internal IT systems support infrastructure.

Current Employee – been working at The Hartford full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Excellent work environment - great people, great benefits, rewards and recognition, opportunity for advancement.
Cons – Very busy in call center - could benefit from more time for daily team huddles for front line employees and time in between calls in mornings and daytime hours for both employee and customer experience. Technology - outdated and buggy internal computer programs and systems in call centers.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to increase promotion from within the front-line call center operations up to management and executive management level roles. Front line leaders potentially have a thorough, comprehensive understanding of our business, our customers, our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats gained from daily interaction with the marketplace. They have that close view perspective and understand what it takes for operational efficiency to happen, as well as growth and customer satisfaction. With education, front line leaders can take on higher level, broader leadership roles in upper levels of the organization using their pperspective and experience sharing data across the organization. Their promotion will inspire front line employees who will reflect their inspiration in their daily interactions with our customers as the see many others advance before them. This potentially can make The Hartford one of the top celebrated companies to work for, with innovative insights shared at high levels om the organization, and faster, more clear decision making based on understanding of our customers, businesses, and what it takes to be efficient and deliber excellent financial performance.
