I have been working at The Hartford full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits were great. Hartford prides themselves on great quality of work, "outsourcing" does not reflect that.

    Cons

Promotions were given to chosen favorites. Training was not always available as promised.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be aware of what their "consultants" are doing in lieu of micro managing the lower level employees.

    Pros

    Decent Wage for Unlicensed work.

    Cons

Antiquated Computer Systems and applications. Does not invest in long term strategies. Poor knowledge management tools. Too many procedural steps to complete simple transactions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in systems that make the Customer Service delivery easier. Employees have to jump through hoops to complete simple transactions.

I worked at The Hartford full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The Monday thru Friday work week

    Cons

Their 10:30am-7:00pm nonsense shift, training was not long enough to learn the job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the staff that you do have. There was too much time spent on "fitness" programs, wellness, work/life balance and trying to make a semi happy employee happier by pretending to fit the employees needs. There was very little time spent learning the material in training (8 weeks), training information was irrelevant once employees were actually in production and upper management of service center was too involved in their own issues to figure out that their staff was struggling.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good management, good people to work with, easy systems and a company that is geared to ease of doing business

    Cons

The cons as a Small Commercial Underwriter is the metrics, everyday in a new business role, you are expect to handle a certain amount of submissions and roll over calls as well. The problem with roll over calls, is that you miss your direct dials from your agencies and then have to take more time to call them back. At times it feels you are turning your wheels, and if you choose to ignore this metric you will be coach on it everytime.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove the roll over calls, and the accountability that you need to take other agents calls for 8 hours everyday and you might have a happy staff.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great culture and ethically sound. Decent and above average benefits. Great upward mobility. Great senior management and they communicate well with the employees.

    Cons

Overworked stressful underpaid positions. In the satalite offices they are understaffed and turnover is high. Their reviewing methods on performance are stringent and unachievable I would say it is the highest restraint in doing your job successfully.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees needs when it comes to perfomance metrics it is the reason turnover in my Dept is high and morale is low.
