Current Employee – been working at The Hartford
Pros – Their "sales" model helpful but not when its shoved down your throat.
Cons – Their "sales" model is highly restrictive. "incentives" are unfairly distributed and cheaters tend to do best.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to feedback and request it more often (anonymous suggestion box?)

Former Employee – worked at The Hartford full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Good benefits, although you pay a lot for health insurance and it doesn't cover a lot with high deductables. Great time off, although very hard to get the days off you actually need.
Cons – Very stressful, demand way too much. Treat you like your disposable. No one knows what their doing. Very bad managers. Many jobs out-sourced. They use metrics that depends on your teeny raise, don't expect much more.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop treating employees like slaves. Managers have their favorites. Get with the times, stop hiring people off the street and treat older employees with respect.

Current Employee – been working at The Hartford full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – None, anymore. Used to be a great company. Congratulations Board of Directors on driving this company into the ground, When can we expect YOUR resignation.
Cons – Shortsighted management, business direction, lack of culture, no career progression potential, cutthroat environment, weak Brand, lack of retention of superior talent, massive outsourcing. Zero commitment to employees. Zero desire to build future leaders. Middle management is busy protecting their jobs to affect needed changes. And the board of directors eats babies. Infighting... Operations assaults the budget of Underwriting. Senior UW's gets pulled to take service calls regularly. Thus who can easily flee, are doing so in droves.
Advice to Senior Management – Sales without strong underwriting and quality is an equation for disaster in an already difficult market. You have a retention problem. Gone is the company I was proud to work for.

Former Employee – worked at The Hartford
Pros – benefits ok, benefits start day one, fair amount of time off
Cons – You are just a number, take customer calls 8 hours straight a day, make sure your call is no longer than 7 minutes, just get the customer off the call and make sure they don't call back within 30 days. Answer all their concerns on home and auto within those 7 minutes. Make sure you are following every single guideline in the ridiculous "folio" (understand it's been changed to a more difficult program) they expect you to read, line-by-line, document the customers file, and check their billing all at the same time..very stress-full. They micro-manage every single call. Could care less about seasoned workers. Turnover is overly high, new people make same or more as people that have been there for years. Raises are almost non-existent.
Advice to Senior Management – Get your heads out of your a$$. Had 4 supervisors in one year that didn't know squat about what the reps do. Keep outsourcing to India, instead of keeping jobs in the United States. Hopefully AARP will find a decent honest company to do business with on their next contract.

Current Employee – been working at The Hartford
Pros – 19 vacation days in your first year, benefits on your first day, opprtunity to work from home within 6 months
Cons – Pay is below average, commision plan is far, far below average, and they will still try to take away what little commision you do make by having all kinds of metrics to meet
Advice to Senior Management – Make a fair commision plan, pay me for what I sell, not what others sell or do not sell, that's all

Current Employee – been working at The Hartford
Pros – There is plenty of room for advancement.
Cons – This is my first experience in a corporate setting. There have been a couple of times that people "passed the buck" on other people and no one wanted to take responsibility. I'm used to working in a smaller setting. If a task was not completed, there is no one to hide behind or to blame. Other than that, I have nothing but positive things to say about the organization. The pay could be better, but the benefits package makes up for what the salary is lacking. I wanted a job with promise of advancement and security, and I have found it.
Advice to Senior Management – I've been here less than a year. So far, so good.
