I worked at The Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity to advance within the company. Benefit package is very nice. My department was family friendly, that can be hard to find.

    Cons

Biggest challenge is to be flexible as expectations can change daily. Can be a very fast paced and stressful job. You need a thick skin to work here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to work on being more professional when delivering reprimand. They tend to do it in front of office staff, loudly in a demeaning fashion.

    Pros

The campus is great, lots of interesting challenges, some great people, decent benefits

    Cons

Low salary, no bonuses, benefits are getting less and less generous, projects are hands out with minimum information and expects to be done on a shoestring.

I worked at The Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale

    Pros

    Great, competent manager.
Some friendly, well educated, cooperative, and understanding co-workers.

    Cons

Incompetent, incoherent, verbally abusive, barking nursing staff.
Constantly understaffed in all departments, including my own.
Place is too big and houses too many residents for the amount of workers it employs or available to work.
    Snobby, rude administrators.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need a thorough reorganization from top to bottom.
Try getting some nurses and nursing assistants who don't bark and bellow every time they're spoken to.

I have been working at The Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale

    Pros

A research interveiwer is a great job for college students who want a flexible and understanding work enviroment. The research department is a small department that involves research interveiwers, the program director, and then the doctors. If you are interested in research involving geriatrics, this is a great start to get hands on feild experience.

    Cons

The managers at the research division need to be firm and communicate with workers who are not so productive. There are people who work in the department for years and do not do what they are supposed to. The friendly, familiy enviroment lends to managers who are non confrontational, and a place that lacks honest communication.

Volunteering with activities is a great way to get used to the place to see if working there will be of interest
