    Best part-time work out there.

Historical Presenter (Former Employee) Dearborn, MI

ProsThe atmosphere, the work, and the people are all reasons to work there. You really get the sense that the museum and village are run by a group a highly intelligent, caring people, who wish to preserve history and educate both the employees and the visitors.

ConsPart-time historic presenters only make minimum wage. It is a great job for a student or retiree looking for a very enjoyable 3-4 day work week.

Advice to Senior ManagementI know you're running a non-profit, but the employees would certainly appreciate a raise in pay.

Great place, needs to value employees much more

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsRich and unique work environment

ConsManagement has no interest in investing in employees.

Incredible resources, disconnected at the very top, not much room for growth.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSome of the nation's greatest collection and cultural gems. A good place to develop resume for a few years due to brand name and resources. Exceptionally committed and dedicated staff. Financially very sound.

ConsDirectors and top management have been in their roles average 15 years. No room to move up and advance career. A marketing driven and focused organization. Staff complaints include lack of career development and training, no substantive salary adjustments in 6 years, disconnect of top management with mid management and staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementOpen up review process of executives to mid name and staff. Develop real management and staff training program. Get serious on salary management and talent management. Balance strategic goals to not just be about marketing

The Henry Ford is a wonderful place to work.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsLike a big family, great work life balance, free passes to museum and Village, managers are encouraging and understanding, a very accepting and warm environment

ConsIn some positions, it is hard to get a raise or get enough hours, even if you've been there for years. Also, benefits can be hard to come by.

Advice to Senior ManagementReward employees for hard work, not just a great attitude. Sometimes the management can be too lax, and some employees need to be disciplined more often.

greenfield village and henry ford museum

    Seamstress/Designer (Former Employee)

Prosreally great environment, ie the museum and the village, free entry for yourself and extra tickets for family and friends.

Consthey rely on the fact you are working for a non profit organisation as an excuse to pay minimum wage, there are people working at the museum and village with vast historical knowledge and expertise in their field. But yet only worth the minimum financial respect.

Advice to Senior Managementget real, these people deserve more respect, they are the face of the whole business

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
