JCI is a great company, in spite of its leadership

International Hospital Surveyor - Administrative (Former Employee)
    Oak Brook, IL

ProsTravel. Professional recognition. Sharing of knowledge around the world.l

ConsThere should be more uniformity in how the survey teams interpret the standards. As it is now, the service provided to the international hospitals varies according to the makeup of the survey team, and most importantly, the team leaders.

Advice to Senior ManagementSurveyors should be paid at a much higher rate than they are presently. International consulting starts at around $500 a day with many being at $1,000 a day. And like it or not, the surveyors are acting as consultants to the hospitals being surveyed. These hospitals look to the surveyors for guidance and almost always appreciate the advice given by the surveyors. If Management really want to make it easier on the surveyors, they should share more of the findings with the teams. As it is now, the teams work in the dark, not knowing how the standards are being scored by all the other teams.

    Project Manager (Former Employee)
    Oakbrook Terrace, IL

Prosgreat atmosphere, nice people, interesting work

Consnew management constantly tries to reinvent the wheel.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe less concerned with leaving your mark by changing the way things are done, go back to the days of Drs. O'Leary and Massaro.

A good organization that values long-time employees

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood work, great benefits, no regrets about choosing this place of employment

ConsThis organization is slow to change. Too many people have a "vote" so change does not happen as quickly as it should.

Advice to Senior ManagementWe spend too much time asking staff what they want...and then not doing it if it conflicts with priorities. Ask staff once, make decisions, and move on.

The Joint Commission is a great place to work at, and the work is very meaningful.

    Associate Project Director (Current Employee)
    Oakbrook Terrace, IL

Prosgood work-life balance, good benefits, flexible work schedule and telecommuting, collaborative and healthy work environment. Management strives to keep employees happy and reward effort and performance, although company policies surrounding career progression and compensation seem to be constrictive and dated.

ConsNot many opportunities for career progression; pay not necessarily driven by performance; slow salary progression; changes is slow.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter retention policies(including career opportunities and quicker salary progression) for high-performing employees and to attract talent are desperately needed.

Low stress company with great exposure to the healthcare industry.

    Associate Project Director (Former Employee)
    Oakbrook Terrace, IL

ProsThe company has great benefits. Their pay is on par with industry standards. The work environment is very low stress.

ConsThe organizations is highly bureaucratic and operates in silos. Project are slow to develop and pushing out new services to customers takes much longer than most other companies. There are few growth opportunities at the organization.

Good mission and vision - too many egos and non-accountability at leadership level

    Director (Former Employee)

ProsHard working staff - committed despite challenges
Still cash cow - plenty of working capital
Lots of health care expertise throughout the organization

    ConsLots of inefficiency
Big divide in comp between staff and execs
Unhappy execs stay because golden packages too good to leave
Joint Commission brand is less and less relevant in health care circles
Board - little power to change or drive accountability
