    Pros

Great Health benefits, good location with parking garage

    Cons

Extremely poor management, co-workers who work hard and are committed to the job are not appreciated! Management lets certain employees micro manage the department which fosters a very poor environment. Constant turnover; human resources does not try to make change for the better after many employees have spoken up at exit interviews.

    Advice to Management

Open up your eyes to what changes need to be made and make them!

    Pros

A good environment with friendly and smart co-workers, all of whom are committed to improving the quality of healthcare. The benefits package --especially the PTO -- is quite good.

    Cons

Salaries are ok to start, but raises are minuscule and don't keep up with the cost of living. Decision-making among senior management is like watching glaciers. And if decisions are made, they do not seem to filter down and across the company.

    Advice to Management

    Communicate more.

    Pros

Good benefits, steady paycheck, and a place to have on your resume. Great name recognition within the healthcare industry. Now I'm just stretching the pros section to reach the suggested minimum.

    Cons

Low morale workforce, toxic culture, heavy favoritism by management, zero trust. High turnover (over a quarter in my department left in the same year). Exit interview consisted of a director reminding me just how many healthcare professionals she talks to in the field as a way to express intimidation.

    Advice to Management

Consultants utilized to bring about culture change were hardly effective.

    Pros

Mission. Dynamic work environment. People know each other and are friendly. Visionary leadership. Good salaries and benefits. A lot of employee activities. Many opportunities to make an impact. Great training programs like on six sigma and change management.

    Cons

constant demands make work-life balance difficult. Can be professionally isolating because Joint Commission employees don't have natural peer groups. company structure makes decision making difficult. tendency to be conservative

    Advice to Management

hire senior leaders that are forward looking. consider creating a formal outplacement program so that employees are only expected to stay 5-7 yrs and then leave. consider programs that support employees who travel or work elsewhere.

    Pros

The pay and benefits were great. The company mission made me proud to work there and I felt good about the work that I was doing in the early years that I was there.

    Cons

Management plays favorites. Management in the HR department made biased decisions based on personal opinions, often disregarding company policy, which were often changed to fit the needs of the moment. New job descriptions were created to fit favored candidates or to prevent qualified candidates from being promoted. Felt more like a high school cafeteria than a professional atmosphere. There was a lack of communication between levels of management.

    Advice to Management

None. Management is not interested in any advice. They have their own way of doing things and that will never change.

    Pros

Travel. Professional recognition. Sharing of knowledge around the world.l

    Cons

There should be more uniformity in how the survey teams interpret the standards. As it is now, the service provided to the international hospitals varies according to the makeup of the survey team, and most importantly, the team leaders.

    Advice to Management

Surveyors should be paid at a much higher rate than they are presently. International consulting starts at around $500 a day with many being at $1,000 a day. And like it or not, the surveyors are acting as consultants to the hospitals being surveyed. These hospitals look to the surveyors for guidance and almost always appreciate the advice given by the surveyors. If Management really want to make it easier on the surveyors, they should share more of the findings with the teams. As it is now, the teams work in the dark, not knowing how the standards are being scored by all the other teams.
