I have been working at The Jones Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

good starting off point; get your foot in the door; get a big corporation on your resume; learn a lot

    Cons

any real learning you might want (ie learning about the fashion industry) you really do on your own; i learned a lot about excel; the particular department i was in had a few bullies who talked down to you, were outright rude at times, and had been reported to HR multiple times but nothing was done; i reported her to my manager and she then stopped talking to me like she was a child. Not an enjoyable work environment but manageable until something better comes along

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your "lowest" assistants, they are getting the brunt of the bad vibes and can give good advice on improvements.

I worked at The Jones Group full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

It used to be the company--classes, training programs, great benefits, bonuses, and employee discount.

    Cons

Every division has different rules. You could have the same position in one division and leave at 3 o'clock, while in another division you might work through a state of emergency snow day. To top it off you might sit next to the person who can leave early. Managers are part of a cliché and do not see the big picture easily. The atomsphere lends to bullying and favoritism. Design and its elements are always chaging to no avail, while directors never change and you see many people losing jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Jones group always had excellent values overall. However, I have witnessed top managers being abusive by imitating a persons disability. By making an employee stay on a day which state declared an emergency. By suggesting that a vendor should comply with company wishes because they were "boyfriend' to employee.

I have been working at The Jones Group full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good work/life balance.
Mgmt and culture vary by division, but overall a sometimes fun, sometimes dull work environment. Mgmt can be very supportive and encouraging in letting associates take on new projects/tasks.
Great training and learning opportunities for entry level.

    Cons

Takes forever to get raises and promotions. Previously had a culture of bringing in outsiders to fill positions instead of promoting from within. Getting somewhat better at this.
Company is under new ownership, so a big re-org is going on. Layoffs will continue until it's finished.
The job can get somewhat prefunctory, so many depts and everyone focuses on their silo.
Salary, vacation, benefits are pretty average.
    HR Dept is worthless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more incentives for retaining talent. Cut out the fat paychecks at the top level. Hire better leaders!

I worked at The Jones Group full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Benefits are good
    - 3PM leaves on Friday year round
    - Salary is reasonable

    Cons

    - Upper managements are all devils and control freaks
    - OT everyday, very long working hours. (12 hours avg.)
    - Horrible office culture and they treat ppl very rude. Lots of politics going on
    - high turn over rates, the ppl working there are either stay for 20 years or less than 2 years. Upper managements have no clue what's going on outside the world. They are like communist.

I worked at The Jones Group (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Discount 40 percent, even on sale items

    Cons

They used to be a good company to work for, but after the restructuring in 2009 the company made serious cuts to jobs and benefits. This contributed to loss of morale and didn't feel like a family company anymore. Those in higher management positions expected more, but hardly recognized those who went beyond company goals/standards. There are DSM's who showed lack of leadership, hardly did proper store visits (some even went shopping instead of performing a proper visit), there was lack of communication between upper and lower management. The idea now that corporate perceives to retail workers is, they believe any one who's with the company to long is 'complacent' and would rather bring in new people, instead of believing in the tenured employee's.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Believe in the worker's you do have, motivate them, give incentives, promote within. Stop trying to format your company like the rest of retail; listen to the workers, they know what works and what doesn't, they are the ones who get to know what the customer's need and want.

    Pros

if seeking to learn what a monster corporation that is all about making money is like, this is the place to be.

    Cons

Loyalty, hard work and creating a good wholesome environment for the REAL workers in the company are not something they are concerned with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set up a SOP for your departments to follow and STOP modifying it without making your entire department aware of these changes. We work under you and if you keep changing/ adding or assuming we know what you are thinking it makes it impossible to follow you. Your incompetence makes the entire department look and act sloppy. Also, all the finger pointing when things don't run smoothly, only lowers morale and doesn't help anyone. Here is a thought for upper management... how about considering stepping aside and allowing the new talent to flourish instead of getting rid of it every few months when the balance sheets don't add up? I think this is worth considering, since the company's present situation happened under your watch I think someone should be taking a long, hard look at your performance instead.
