I have been working at The Jones Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people you meet are wonderful. A lot of connections can be made if you want a career in fashion. Make sure you keep your eyes and ears open for that one opportunity.

    Cons

Contrasting personalities and lack of attention to detail will frustrate you at times. With the buyout and radical changes taking place, it's impossible at times to know where you stand

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trading experience for wealth will hurt severely down the road. Also, too many chiefs and too little indians are not good financially and productively

    Pros

A company that trully embraces associate training and development. Promotes from within, and there are a lot of opportunities for someone that is ambitious. Great group of people to work with, upbeat, happy people and I always felt that management had my back.

    Cons

Many changes have occured in the last couple of years, maye too many changes. At least half the managers in my distict have been let go over the last couple of years, especially those that have been with the company long term. It has created a culture that has everyone afraid that they will loose their jobs. They have closed many stores, seven in my district alone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to the people who work in your stores. They are a wealth of information and experience and have a great deal to comtriute

Since the company buyout Upper Management have been promoting themselves and increasing their salaries

    Pros

Most co-workers are great and helpful team players. Makes your daily job responsibilities bearable along a good team

    Cons

Favoritism at it's finest, speaking for the suit division upper management has promoted themselves and those of their favorites, ridiculous raises given to themselves, poor leadership, managers and directors lack knowledge but are experts on passing work to their staff, employees are under appreciated unless you kiss management's feet, sales team love passing blame and moral is low. Early Friday dismissal are a joke as not everyone leaves at 3pm as should. Will probably be a thing of the past as VPs breathe, eat and live for their positions and do not value quality of life. They expect others to do the same but don't show it come review time. Management very sneaky on letting their staff know about other employee promotions. Usually find out along the grapevine instead of formally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to train your employees for growth based on their strengths and not on their personal interests. You will be guaranteed hardworking loyal employees in return. I guess enjoy your higher titles and raises given because the suit division will belly up in less than 2yrs.

    Pros

Do a great job and you can get promoted fairly easy
3pm Fridays ALWAYS if you are not in sales
Benefits are priced fair, good amount of vacation and sick days, and nice discount on merchandise
Some divisions are organized and ran very well
Great name to have on resume for future career advancement
Can learn A LOT if you are in a WELL-RUN division

    Cons

Very long working hours if you are in sales...upper management doesn't care about work life balance and not having enough employees to complete ALL the work required
No proper titles to associates who have larger responsibilities vs. associates who are at same level....leads to HUGE egos, extreme rudeness and bullying.
Upper management and HR are in close relationship...very biased, confidentiality can be questioned
HORRIBLE organization and management of certain divisions and nobody seems to care of the effects on employees...not even Presidents/CEOs of divisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to Presidents and CEOs to underperforming divisions is to LOOK at the BIG picture and how SEVERE your employee turnover is as well as how sales have decreased. You have to be willing to make the necessary changes (firing of long-term employees who are dead weight and are making a very generous salary) to get back on track. They also need to consider how serious the effects of mismanagement in a department is and how it has played a role in their division.

    Pros

Learning Center when you were able to attend, good benefits, time off and discounts.

    Cons

Favoritism, area supervisors looking for gifts, unable to get help in learning new requirements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to ask the workers about supervisors as some of the reviews were prejudiced and fabricated. What was once a family became an arena of divide and conquer with everyone looking out for their own job.

    Pros

good starting off point; get your foot in the door; get a big corporation on your resume; learn a lot

    Cons

any real learning you might want (ie learning about the fashion industry) you really do on your own; i learned a lot about excel; the particular department i was in had a few bullies who talked down to you, were outright rude at times, and had been reported to HR multiple times but nothing was done; i reported her to my manager and she then stopped talking to me like she was a child. Not an enjoyable work environment but manageable until something better comes along

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your "lowest" assistants, they are getting the brunt of the bad vibes and can give good advice on improvements.

I worked at The Jones Group full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

It used to be the company--classes, training programs, great benefits, bonuses, and employee discount.

    Cons

Every division has different rules. You could have the same position in one division and leave at 3 o'clock, while in another division you might work through a state of emergency snow day. To top it off you might sit next to the person who can leave early. Managers are part of a cliché and do not see the big picture easily. The atomsphere lends to bullying and favoritism. Design and its elements are always chaging to no avail, while directors never change and you see many people losing jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Jones group always had excellent values overall. However, I have witnessed top managers being abusive by imitating a persons disability. By making an employee stay on a day which state declared an emergency. By suggesting that a vendor should comply with company wishes because they were "boyfriend' to employee.
