    I worked at The Limited

    Pros

Successful employees are bright, high-energy, and don't mind working long hours. Those that do well are extremely flexible and will bend over backwards for anything that needs done. Due to the constant sense of urgency; it is commonplace to see associates running around the office in heels.

    Cons

The ever-changing world of retail requires late hours consistently. They preach work-life balance, but in reality, you can feel the odd looks if you leave the office just after 5 pm. The most successful associates work unlimited hours and if they leave in decent time, they work from home. There is clear favoritism toward the 'dedicated' workers. If you cherish your personal time, this is not the job for you.

Some managers are micro-managers and others are hands-off, so no consistency here. Upper management can be downright disrespectful to those below them. I've seen associates verbally abused (including myself) for not doing or saying something the right way. If you are not 'in' with the circle of leadership, you will feel excluded and unimportant. If you do not break into that inner circle, your confidence will be broken and your job will be at stake.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat workers at all levels with respect. Smile and greet them like you care. When making last minute changes, consider the added labor and stress across departments to implement the change. In many cases, the benefit does not offset the labor to implement the change. The Limited is not saving lives, they are selling clothes.

Get exit interviews from every person who leaves the business. I was never offered one, so it must only be offered to a select group.

    I worked at The Limited

    Pros

Fair compensation; time devoted to mentoring and development; impressive investment in technology and automation to improve productivity and safety in the workplace

    Cons

Highly structured system within which it is sometimes difficult to gain visibility of ideas and/or consideration of improvement suggestions and creative problem solving. Team building is not a priority.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would benefit the organization if the senior leadership would loosen up on the highly structured approach to communication , and create an inovatrion-friendly environment where lower level managers are allowed to have ideas, and receive the credit.

    I worked at The Limited

    Pros

The people you work with & discount.

    Cons

Upper management was unprofessional. Instead of coaching, training or developing you, you were abused & disrespected until you had no choice but to resign. At the end, it was the most political environment I have ever worked in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you don't like someone personally, that should not be a reason to be disrespectful and humiliate employees and senior management should not be permitted to behave this way or allow others to behave this way. Employees are still human beings and deserve a chance before you write them off and push them out. Every company needs diversity. It is OK to be honest. It is not OK to be downright mean.

I have been working at The Limited

    Pros

    Exposure to fashion
Culture provides a crash-course experience in how to manage-up to female executives
    Established brand name
Great deal of potential for the company

    Cons

Lack of effective executive leadership and direction, no knowledgeable leadership in certain departments, silo operations, no multi-channel focus, little interest in improving the business based on customer insights, significantly challenged in technical infrastructure, lots of mind games and catty drama, way too much group-think and too many actions taken purely on the whims of the wrong leader. No focus on retaining talent and even less focus on hiring new external talent or onboarding anyone. Clear career paths and growth opportunities are only available in select departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on hiring leadership with knowledge and experience rather than filling roles with friends or consultants, then let those knowledgeable leaders LEAD based on what they do best. Each year the once-phenomenal brand equity is eroded a bit more because no one is piloting the ship with a clear strategy and a team of executives all leading toward that same strategy. Without a strong foundation (supporting technology and building things the right way from the beginning), no New York PR firm can save the brand once it falls.

    Cons

    I worked at The Limited

    Pros

Salaries are above average for the area, nice office space

    Cons

benefits have been downgraded and there is no 401K match. they have a serious problem understanding how to retain and promote good talent. you usually have to leave then come back to get promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

quit making critical business judgements based on linda's gut feelings. she has no clue how to turn this business around. also laying people off then paying a ton of money for consultants is idiotic.
