Former Employee – worked at The Mentor Network full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The employees who serve clients are truly dedicated to Human Services. Why else would they work under increasing benefits costs, no corporate recognition, and no pay increases for 4+ years?
Cons – Truly an example of allowing corporate finance to rule an organization. It's all about the Benjamins! Corporate management is absolutely disconnected from those employees who make it happen. The CHRO has wasted hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars on frivolous software/ employee self service systems and non-value added corporate HR staff which has achieved nothing but employee disengagement. So much so, that The MENTOR Network is now being assailed by the SEIU. It could have been easily avoided with a few good strategic choices that didn't include building an HR kingdom (or queendom), and utilizing resources and dollars to recognize, reward, and appreciate the field employees that selflessly serve disabled and vulnerable human beings on a daily basis. Meanwhile, the senior executive team received a 10% pay increase and bonuses while the field staff hasn't had a raise in four years and absolutely no communication about why. Something way wrong with that picture. Human services? Not sure about the human part, but if you're looking for a debt ridden, top heavy organization that is only concerned with making their interest payments to their capital investment masters, you have come to the right place. Good luck.
Advice to Senior Management – Return to your roots, and value your employees. Forget about getting fancy and focus on the fundementals.

Current Employee – been working at The Mentor Network full-time for more than a year
Pros – good clients to work with. fun to work with the people in the home. a lot of freedom for activities
Cons – TERRIBLE PAY! management treats staff like dogs. people have been working here for 6 yrs and still get the same pay as a new person coming into the company. no raises. 10.64 an hour is where you will always be at. management hires idiots to work in the home and then they quit or get fired within a month or 2
Advice to Senior Management – pay your staff better and they will stick around. wouldnt have so much turn around.

Current Employee – been working at The Mentor Network full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Many of the other reviewers have complained about the pay; however, compared to other mental health agencies that I have worked for in the Philadelphia area, the current rates are actually pretty competitive. In addition, Mentor is the only agency I have found that hires direct service staff as "employees". Most other agencies are only willing to hire part time or independent contractors at this time, which makes workers ineligible for benefits, PTO, travel reimbursement, paid training etc. Lastly, although every company has its bad apples, Mentor does still have a lot of hard-working people who really do want to help and support one another, and who really have the best interest of the clients in mind.
Cons – As with any mental health agency, jobs in this field are closely monitored and regulated by the state, insurance companies, and other funding sources, which means there is often a lot of red tape. Some staff are expected to wear many hats at once, which means if there is not an even distribution of responsibility it can lead to burnout or supervisors who are inaccessible to lower-level staff.
Advice to Senior Management – Delegating leadership/responsibility to additional administrative positions can allow staff to focus more intently on certain aspects of the service, while also ensuring that guidance and leadership is more readily available to direct service staff. It would also seem that more focused, specialized staff would improve the quality of the work that is done and eliminate mistakes that cost the company money in unbillable services.
In addition, more effort should be placed on recognizing staff for their efforts. To a certain extent, pay rates are dependent on the reimbursement rates of the funding source, and so a significant increase may not be possible. However, there are other ways to acknowledge the fact that a lot of workers go above and beyond to provide superior services to their clients, and it would create a more positive, motivating work environment to help everyone get through the stress of being in this industry.

Former Employee – worked at The Mentor Network full-time for less than a year
Pros – Only pro I can think of if helping others, as in clients.
Cons – Management has to be the worse I have ever dealt with. Supervisors think they are CEO's of the company treating staff horrible! When a concern comes up they say " let me look at the handbook" there are some life situation that you don't look at the handbook for and use common sense. In which common sense is lacking at this establishment! They don't care about staff or clients all they care about is how many comusmers they have or can get $$$. I actually witness pushing clients off them if they wanted a hug
Advice to Senior Management – Go back to school! Get better training! Just because you have an office space doesn't mean you are better than others!

Current Employee – been working at The Mentor Network full-time for more than a year
Pros – Working for the company you help contribute to the overall goal of supporting and assisting children and adults with disabilities.
Cons – Mentor is not a company that offers a great deal of career growth, raises are extinct as they are not offered, and work flexibility is not available. At least not at Indiana Mentor in the finance department. Health insurance is terrible. Most employees don't even take it.
Advice to Senior Management – Management needs to get a little more in tuned with there employees in the finance department. Management should be the same across the board. Operations is very more flexible and caring than Finance is. Finance management should care that their whole team is unhappy.

Current Employee – been working at The Mentor Network full-time for more than a year
Pros – - The Clients and the satisfaction of helping disabled people live more normal lives.
- Accrue paid time off on each pay check provided you are full-time
Cons – - Incompetent supervisors and coworkers who when they do something wrong management looks away and ignores.
- NO PAY RAISES!
- Expensive benefits package.
- No recognition for doing good work.
- Constant staff turnover due to no raises which means the care quality could suffer
- They seem to single people out for minor things such as staying 5 min late while major things go unnoticed (ex. not following proper protocol during emergencies)
- Consumer complaints often ignored
Could list more but this is enough since a lot of other cons are listed in these reviews
Advice to Senior Management – - Pay employees what they are worth and give raises
- Get rid of incompetent staff and higher ups
- Find more cost effective and better coverage on health/medical benefits
- Provide care like Mission Statement claims
