    Pros

Everyone is happy for the most part, good pay, even better benefits.

    Cons

Room for growth IF you work your tail off. Just get a job, work as hard as you can and keep applying to new openings.

    Pros

The life working on campus is invigorating. You feel a part of something bigger than yourself. You have plenty of opportunities to get involved in a huge variety of organizations or activities.

    Cons

The are times when the bureaucracy of working for the government gets old. Seeing how money is wasted can make you lose satisfaction in what you are going.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage employees to get involved. Campus offers a unique lifestyle unlike any other place. Identify talented employees and find opportunities for them.

    Pros

The benefits, the access to services, speakers, professionals, sporting events, and amazing networking opportunities.

    Cons

It is difficult to get one's foot int he door, and then once it's in, you are so specialized that it can be difficult to transition outside of your own department, but certainly not impossible.

I have been working at The Ohio State University part-time

    Pros

OSU offers great benefits to its employees--even GTAs get great healthcare benefits and paid maternity leave. The teaching load is light relative to other institutions.

    Cons

Some administrators care more than others about doing their job well, and this impacts students, faculty, and co-administrators alike. While the pay is adequate, GTAs make less than at similar institutions nationwide. Class sizes are also large.

I worked at The Ohio State University as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

The job, with the Department of Agricultural Economics (name has probably changed now), definitely made time for my studies and made them the focus of my tenure there. My project was very flexible on when I needed to put in my time, so I was able to to a good job with my studies as well as my assigned projects.

    Cons

The pay was low for this position, but it was what I expected, so there were no surprises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thank you! I think all of the professors in the Agricultural Economics department are great people to work for.

I worked at The Ohio State University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great training, rich resources and great employee benefits University wide. OSU also has great manager-mentors, and very dedicated, knowledgeable, caring, and hard working faculty and staff. The students were also fantastic. I was very pleased and proud to work for OSU overall.

    Cons

Opportunities for professional development are mostly in Columbus. One must always drive to Columbus. This proved problematic for me, as it took a lot of time to get there. Working on a smaller campus was a great experience. However, there are no advancement opportunities at the smaller campuses. If one wants to advance, it is necessary to go to Columbus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more virtual, teleconferenced training opportunities and events between the smaller campuses and Columbus to students, faculty, and staff at the smaller campuses so that all can take part and more easily participate in the OSU community. All of the campuses have much to contribute to one another.
