    Pros

It is easy to do you duties here and there isn't the pressure of sell, sell, sell. It's kinda like a walled off garden that once you get in you never want to leave.

    Cons

The pay is not a competitive as other places but the benefits are good. They won't hire you if you don't have a degree. They only respect their own.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire the best talent, not the best resume.

I have been working at The Ohio State University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pros of working for OSU are that the institution provides satisfactory compensation, good students, visionary leadership, great benefits, and stimulating colleagues. Overall there are great things going on at OSU.

    Cons

Trends in competitive funding of the public sector research has made the job of being a professor less enjoyable than when I started in 2000.

    Pros

Great place to work. They give you the authority and responsibility to get the job done. Flexible about hours.

    Cons

Politics of colleges and conflicting goals of research vs. undergraduate education. Sometimes its unclear which is more important.

I worked at The Ohio State University (more than an year)

    Pros

The atmosphere, network (of your department and outside), resources, and general life of the campus as an employee are all quite fascinating.

    Cons

The administration may be wonky at times due to being such a large and compartmentalized institution. It may also seem hard to distinguish yourself or to consider if there is room for potential growth. Such is a critique of both general university professions and of Ohio State in particular. I attest to the latter on the grounds that the big university setting creates for, at best, significant reliance upon luck and happenstance; and, at worst, some rather fine politicing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more positions to students and compel students to work. Many of the students I have seen do not work as undergraduates. This has a horrible effect on students' abilities to articulate what they want, to grow, and to be ready for other tasks; even if it within a path that they have chosen. There is an ample pool from which to draw this work force. It is constant. It is massive. It is plausibly enthusiastic. It is perhaps the case that positions are not too readily available as an option, nor are they supported by sufficient incentive.

Health benefits. retirement system. often a sense of pride to work here. the pay (sometimes). college atmosphere. co-workers. working with students and to see them develop and mature.

    Cons

parking - both cost and availability. If you work as Civil Service, it can be dificult to move up. so much focus on student development, the staff are often left behind. college atmosphere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
