    Pros

Good opportunity for beginning Engineers or Scientists to get a leg in the door for environment science, construction, or Civil engineering.

    Cons

Room for career development or advancement is limited. After 2-3 years hear you will become stagnant due to the poor leadership of the senior management.

    Pros

PBS&J has newly been acquired by a Brithish firm Atkins. May open doors for other opportunities in othe countries if interested.

    Cons

The company has gone through lot of upheavel and is still trying to stand up on its feet, hence got acquired by a Brithish firm Atkins.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to look at the overall good of the new company rather than focus on individual narrow goals. Let engineers be the decision makers in an engineering company rather than putting the helm in the hands of accountants.

    Pros

Used to be a great team atmosphere. Everyone worked as a team toward common goal. There were opportunities to learn and advance and people didn't have turf wars. In every office your co-workers seemed like family and you watched each others kids grow up. Staff was well respected by clients and management knew to stay out of the way of production.

    Cons

Management has lost focus after scandals of the previous 5 years. They feel they need to step in to control everything and everything thertouch crumbles. There is currently a lot of unnecessary beauracracy. Everytime you turn around there is a major screwupand the board simply say, sorry not our fault. Very quick to point fingers at everyone but themselves. Now feels like every man for themself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The fate of 3600 people are in your hands. Do the right thing for the PBS&J family, not just for your retirement.

    Pros

Great place if starting out with your career. Set your own goals as to where you would like to be in the industry. Good benefits.

    Cons

Senior management not very knowlegable at times does not communicate important information to employees. Management does not look out for employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to better collaborate with employees. Needs to build a culture of stopping to fix problems, to get quality right the first time.

    Pros

PBS&J is a great company to work for, and I would reccomend it to anybody. They are a little below market in compensation, but make up for it in benefits and support.

    Cons

Currently, however, senior management is struggling, and I am not sure it is due to the recession. I know that is vague, but that is how the employees see it too. Not sure what the future holds, but the past five ears it has been a wonderful place to work.
Currently there is no CEO, and it would appear the company is for sale... that is why the uncertainty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be open, but be more blunt about what is currently going on.

    Living on an old reputation

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee  in  Denver, CO
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Denver, CO

    Pros

    Fair compensation
Some talented project managers and junior PMs.
    Has a decent industry reputation.

    Cons

    Overall a sham.
The company is reeling from negative press of illegal political campaign contributions as well as embezelment issues from a few years ago. There is instability. Zumwalt was kicked-out by the employees and now stocks are frozen. People are unsure of their futures and posture every chance possible making it a fake environment. The management in place has been there too long and doesn't recognize its unethical behavior. It is like walking into a highschool where no one takes accoutnability for his/her actions. It is sad because there is a lot of mid-level staff that could be stars, but they have no leadership. Therefore, the staff is leaving. There is a consistent trend of hiring poor managers and then losing the stable, talented junior staff. The Denver office is NOT recommended. The hours are too long, the community sour and the leadership poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A good leader recognizes his/her weaknesses rather than pointing a finger. A major overhaul of senior leadership could save the reputation, but this place needs a lot of help, and accountability does not seem to be a word management understands.
