Pros- The pay was pretty good.
- Good, relaxed environment.
- It must be a good company, it has a low turn over rate.

Cons- Since some people have been there almost their whole lives, there was not any room for the younger people to advance into new positions.
- The economy and digital media was hurting the newspaper industry.

Advice to Senior ManagementNone.

Former Employee – worked at The Patriot News Co.

ProsThe Patriot News used to be a good place to work years ago, even though it was a hard job and not much of a life.

ConsThe newspaper business is not what used to be and probably never will be.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey should consider restoring some of the compensation they took from the carriers in 2009 because the carriers have to pay all their own expenses to deliver their product. The cost of keeping a vehicle on the road is not cheap. Also, they should give them more credit for the work they do in order to deliver their product in all types of weather and sometimes hazardous conditions, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year with very little time off. This is not an easy job. Unfortunately, the pay really is no longer worth it and it is almost impossible to find a good substitute to run routes so a carrier can have a day off. Many carriers have not had a day off in a year or two. The management does not concern themselves with helping the carriers find ways to do their jobs more efficiently or maybe even a little easier. In fact it seems sometimes that they do things to make it harder on the carriers. All they are concerned about is that things are done "their way" and that all the routes are covered and they look good to their bosses. They care very little about the common carrier and their problems.
