I worked at The Source full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

employee discount, getting really cheap games/electronics as they go on clearance, and if you have a down to earth manager (getting harder to find by the way) a very happy environment

    Cons

all management above your store manager has way to high expectations and does not live in the real world. they are told by bell what do to even if it wont work or makes no sense but they never question it, which when it comes down to you and it doesnt work guess who gets blamed (hint its not bell)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

dont be a "yes man" if something is not right look into it and apply a real solution not a 10 minute temporary fix. not everyone who walks into a store is going to buy a phone and i cant tell you have many customers ive lost due to pushy management. if you want to work here i suggest finding a smaller more remote store as the environment is much more friendly then a mall store. mall stores have the highest pressure and it shows when you talk to the staff.

    Pros

Commission is great if you work at a busy location.

    Cons

No room for growth and too much of push selling Bell and Virgin services.

    I worked at The Source

    Pros

The people were very friendly and helpful. Which helped as there is a lot going on up in Barrie

    Cons

Fair bit of turnover, probably has something to do with it being in Barrie

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at The Source part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

-Good management people who are always available to provide their assistance.
-Great Team spirit despite the competitive dynamic at work.
-Possibility to earn huge sales commissions.

    Cons

-Very loose sense of corporate culture. Every The Source store has its own culture.
    -Lack of former training programs.
-Meritocracy based on only sales performances.
-Very sloppy hiring process. The recruitment system is not well structured.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Could benefit from implementing measures that would monitor the level of customer satisfaction on top of sales performances.
-Appoint competent managers and assistant managers with the right set of management skills instead of only selling skills.

I worked at The Source part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Picked up some customer service skills as well as retail knowledge. Friendly coworkers with similar interests.

    Cons

Was located in a high-theft area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Install security alarms, have a lot of expensive stock that is easy to get out of busy mall locations unnoticed.

I have been working at The Source part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoy working at The Source because it gives me the freedom to talk to other people and earn much better than minimum wage without much prior experience. Management is very laid back though I would assume this varies from store to store.

    Flexible hours.

    Cons

Meeting quotas are important, while not selling creates a problem they wont necessarily fire you. They will have a sitdown talk with you which could be uncomfortable to some.

    Not much chance of advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing, the stress on management is a required driving force to ensure we try.

I worked at The Source full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Main thing that kept me there were my co-workers. If not for them it would have been unbearable. Once in a while you get a good paycheck

    Cons

Anyone from management up see you as a means to an end and not as a person. Artificial "kindness" which can turn on a dime. Focus of sales constantly changing. No real training. Advancement is impossible. Worked as "acting assistant manager" for over a year without proper compensation. Topped the store in sales at Xmas but was then let go three weeks later with no warning or reason. Zero chance for raises. Managers staff the store according to favoritism, not sales ability. Hours are allocated the same way. Over the top quotas. Yearly reviews are performed without your knowledge and usually without you even being there for them even. If you think for yourself and question management they will get rid of you in a heartbeat.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out what kind of business you want to be. If the focus is bell services, then let your employees focus on that and not rearranging the store layout, tagging, and putting out stock that has a profit margin of 0.25....

I have been working at The Source

    Pros

Incentives to sell such as the chance to win gift cards, laid back work environment, potential to earn

    Cons

Management favours certain employees over others for irelevent reasons, cultural imbalance at certain stores that make you feel out of place if you don't speak the same language as your co-workers, sexist customers who won't talk to you if you're a woman cause they think you don't know anything, agressiveness between team members, pressure to make sales is constant and never ending

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your associates, accept that there is a cultural imbalance and strive to hire a mixed array of staff. Don't play favourites or accuse your associates of lying all the time. Give credit where it's due.
