I have been working at The Source full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

It's one of the fastest growing consumer electronics companies and its always evolving. New stores, changes and promotions make people that want to move up able to succeed.

    Cons

Aggressive sales targets makes it a challenging environment but is very rewarding

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognition and Rewards has been a diminishing part of the company and needs to take a larger roll. People enjoy recognition and without it we risk loosing people.

    Pros

great deals, learn lots, co workers can be fun, great hours. some benefits if you work full time, office culture is not bad.

    Cons

terrible marketing strategy, they expect you to sell phones everyday, if you don't you get yelled out. The only problem is THE SOURCE IS NOT SEEN AS A PHONE STORE, its an electronic store, thats why people go in, they don't go in to buy a phone, if you want to sell phones turn your store into a cellphone oriented store. Bottom line, they expect you to reach ridiculous quotas. Also you get the worst kind of customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

re market EVERYTHING. terrible job head office is doing

    Pros

Days fly by as you are very busy.

    Cons

If you are good at your job they keep you there, they do not allow you to move to other positions. Management has been caught screaming at employees and you cannot go to HR to complain or you'll be fired. They add huge amounts of work especially around Christmas and threaten to fire you if you make mistakes, even if your direct manager reviewed your work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't expect Management to change, when Bell took over things went from bad to worse, Christmas party's stopped and the managers that have been so unprofessionally are rewarded for their behavior. This is why I left it was such a horrible experience watching many of my co-workers get walked out.

I have been working at The Source

    Pros

Incentives to sell such as the chance to win gift cards, laid back work environment, potential to earn

    Cons

Management favours certain employees over others for irelevent reasons, cultural imbalance at certain stores that make you feel out of place if you don't speak the same language as your co-workers, sexist customers who won't talk to you if you're a woman cause they think you don't know anything, agressiveness between team members, pressure to make sales is constant and never ending

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your associates, accept that there is a cultural imbalance and strive to hire a mixed array of staff. Don't play favourites or accuse your associates of lying all the time. Give credit where it's due.

I have been working at The Source full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good employee discount program - up to 30% off products even when they are on sale.

    Cons

The company struggles to break out of traditional silos and become innovative. Antiquated systems. Management tends to be very hierarchal and doesn't easily recognize hard work. Company tends to pay new hires more money to recruit talent from Toronto to be competitive to Toronto salaries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognizing and rewarding talent that is already working for the company would be beneficial for the company and the employees. People want to feel appreciated.

I have been working at The Source

    Pros

Great work environment, employee discounts, commission.

    Cons

HQ and upper management don't seem to realize that the source isn't seen as a cell phone store, and had I known I'd just be a subscription pusher for Bell I wouldn't passed on applying for this job. Aggressive sales targets are to be met, no matter what. I've seen some very sketchy activities to get customers to subscribe to overpriced and awful Bell services just to make their quotas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to push subscriptions, fine, just make it more public that the company is moving towards this and away from electronics.
