The UPS Store in Waco was a great place to work at while I did school

    Manager (Former Employee)
    Waco, TX

ProsThe work environment was amazing. It is kingdom business model, where employees serve each other and customers.

ConsThe only con I can think of is how busy it gets around Christmas.

    Good part time job

    Part Time Job (Former Employee)

ProsLots of customer interaction. Worked with hands. Good summer job. Good manager who was able to quickly teach me the necessary skills to function on my own.

ConsThere were not many bad things about the job. I only worked at the store for a few months over the summer. I enjoyed my time working here.

A lot of work for little pay and no benefits.

    Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)

ProsCo-workers and customers are friendly. You are always busy.

ConsAll that you would expect from a small business and there isn't enough employees working in the store at once.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave more employees working in store for busy times and raise pay. Also treat employees better because they work hard.

Simple work that sometimes gets frustrating and tedious

    Assistant Manager (Current Employee)
    Worcester, MA

ProsEasy work, corporate interactions are simple, can have very quiet days depending on your location

ConsPay (mediocre hourly), know it all customers, some prices are hard to up-sell versus competitors (FedEx, USPS).

Advice to Senior ManagementRespond to FedEx and USPS' pricing, especially flat-rate.

This job has been a good stepping stone, but there is no room for growth.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIt's way better than just working at McDonalds. You have opportunity to gain experience in data entry, office administration, and inventory management, though it is a retail job.

ConsThe UPS Store is a franchise, so every store is operated differently, and they are all considered small businesses. Some owners will be better than others. Be prepared to do more than just packaging and shipping. Also, don't expect to be full time with benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour UPS Store employees should be focusing on their job, and not on side projects for store owners.

    Relaxing

Customer Service Assistant Manager (Current Employee)
    Concord, CA

ProsIt is a laid back environment during non-holiday seasons and great for college students. The owners are great and I love working here as a college job.

ConsNot much growth, hours depends on how many people work there. The days can drag on unless you are employed by someone who finds busy work for you. Even that can be lacking sometimes.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy bosses are amazing since it's a franchise. Depends on where you get hired.

    Supervisor (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsAllot of down time, meet great people, build relationships with the residence

Conslittle advancement, can get annoying with the stupid questions you get all day and people with no sense.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more involved there isn't enough communication

Good at lower levels, Messy at Corporate Level

    Assistant Manager (Former Employee)
    Indianapolis, IN

ProsLocal franchise owners are tough but fair and open to input on ways to expand or grow. Job can keep you engaged with a complex assortment of printing, shipping, and general management tasks. UPS is usually pretty good about working with you on their end of things.

ConsAdvancement peaks at the store level. Corporate management is scattered and annoying. It's still retail.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet stores develop their niche and stop micro-managing. Decide on a focus for the overall business.

It was my first job and I stayed there for over four years because there was a flexible schedule and above minimum wage.

    Customer Service Associate (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsEach store is owned individually, so there is a chance you will get an awesome and laid back owner and/or manager.

ConsOwners cut corners no matter who it affects or how many customers it angers.
