Franchise Business - Your Mileage May Vary

Store Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at The UPS Store full-time

ProsDoing something different every day, great interactions with regular customers and fun problem solving. The business model is a good one.

ConsIndependently owned stores mean that some (like mine) are run poorly or the owners are a bit crazy and unprofessional. Be careful to interview your boss just as much as they interview you.

Advice to Senior ManagementFar more frequent checks of older stores. Our store follows practically NONE of the franchise rules.

Good student job

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
San Antonio, TX

I have been working at The UPS Store full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIt is a great place to work if you are an undergrad student, most owners will work with your school schedule. You will learn many things which are very valuable in many industries.

ConsThey are franchises so dont expect good pay. I have worked with different owners
and they where all self centered and asked to much from their employees. They expect you to learn and perform many tasks with a pay that was close to minimum wage.

Advice to Senior ManagementCorporate needs to show more quality of stores than quantitym, most store owners have
no clue how to run a proper store.

Not the best place to work, but not the worst

Assistant Manager (Former Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA

I worked at The UPS Store full-time for more than a year

ProsI enjoyed that I worked for a local franchise owner, meaning I got to see my boss on a regular basis and reinforce my value to the company. The location was always busy and I never felt like I was bored.

ConsThe owner rarely pulled his own weight, customer service with corporate was difficult, and the lack of rigidity with franchise rules meant I always felt like our franchise was cheating the customer.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake franchise rules and pricing more strictly set and enforce it! Just because a store can rip someone off doesn't mean they should.

Great co-workers, friendly UPS drivers, Great Location, Very comfortable.

Customer Service Associate (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at The UPS Store full-time for more than a year

ProsHours are reasonable, no Sundays, off by 4pm on Saturdays. Easy to get to here in Chicago. Great customers! Neighborhood filled with repeat customers who are pleasant to speak with. Other local business establishments honor UPS Store discounts, as do we.

ConsLow pay, terrible health insurance, not enough hours, no parking, parking lot is small and surrounded by residential permit parking. Not much room for advancement. Owning your own UPS Store Franchise involves many loops to jump through.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay more per hour and offer better health insurance
