I have been working at The UPS Store

    Pros

fast paced, variety of tasks to accomplish

    Cons

nothing really! slow during summer season so there isnt a whole lot to do if your store doesnt do a lot of print jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

all are individually owned so it really depends on the specific store itself

I have been working at The UPS Store part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you are a young adult looking for a retail job that has more importance and requires more acquired knowledge, then The UPS Store is a good start. You interact with 20-100 people on a daily basis and handle everything from domestic and international shipping, to intricate packaging and print center tasks.

    Cons

Like any retail job, the day can become incredibly boring. This isn't a negative to The UPS Store but to any job that requires maintaining a sales floor for extended hours. The pay doesn't progress too much since it is a first-time-job-esque occupation, but if you work hard for a couple years then you can make a manager position. Benefits aren't applicable unless you work full-time and for over a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall the management in the Boston store locations is pretty good. I don't think anything else can be expected from a retail job, so not too much to say.

I worked at The UPS Store full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They prefer to promote from within. Tuition reimbursement. Flexible hours.

    Cons

You had to suck up to higher ups to try to get promoted from within. If you were liked you got promoted. If you weren't it was difficult. They would switch your position and then tell you after that you now have a new position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Adding a holiday between New Year's day and Memorial Day. Some managers need to be reviewed.

    Pros

Flexibility in schedule. Manageable work load. Great people to work with.

    Cons

Must be able to deal with conflict, customers are not always happy when there packages don't arrive on time or in one piece, which is out of your control because you do not deliver the packages.

I have been working at The UPS Store full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

working closely with lots of different small businesses allows you to get your foot in the door for future opportunities.
the work really isn't all that difficult, but being a retail job you end up dealing with some difficult people.

    Cons

the stores are franchises, so your results may vary. unless you plan to open your own store, there's very little room for growth.

I worked at The UPS Store part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You get to interact with a lot of people. Learning - The shipping industry may be a factor in many other jobs, and it has helped me greatly to have some shipping background in my own business.

    Cons

People aren't always expecting to pay so much. You might have to deal with claims. Christmas time is madness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This system seems to work as is it is. For store owners, I think it is important to pay staff well and provide them with training - not the computer training, actually show them what to do. I learned a lot on my own, but I was hired for the manager's position at more than minimum wage.
