Good money good people, but interns do monotonous work. No smoking on company property (not even in your car).

    Intern (Former Employee)
    Orange, CT

ProsField work is a nice break
    Management is supportive
Internship comes with a $2500 scholarship

ConsIT staff slow to respond to calls / tickets
Facebook and Twitter (and every proxy site known to man) are blocked really well
No smoking on company property (not even in your car) so you have to walk a quarter mile to smoke a butt

Used to be wonderful place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros-still somewhat stable employment compared to most companies
    -benefits are better than most
    - small enough where you can make a difference
    - telecommuting available if mgr allows

Cons- nightmare place to work post gas company merger
    - no upward advancement. Managers hold on tight and won't let their employees advance to other opportunities
    - outsourcing in IT (there are incompetent Wipro resources all over the place)
    - the company culture is to take action without any long-term planning
    - the review process is a joke. If you don't agree you still have to sign off to get bonus
    - aforementioned bonus process makes long-term planning difficult. Everyone just concentrates on yearly goals with no thought to how it will affect co in future
    - there are single points of dependencies everywhere

Advice to Senior ManagementCancel contract with Wipro ASAP. Stop hiring castoffs from PB
Rework HR. upward mobility in company is horrendous.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Can be an awesome place to work- if you're in the right department; or it can be a real nightmare

    Analyst (Former Employee)
    New Haven, CT

ProsIn the right department, you will be challenged and rewarded

Consif you are in the wrong department you are treated like a child and even if you are a professional, salaried employee treated as though you are an hourly worker at mcdonalds

    great benefits; poor prospects

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsStable job; great benefits, ie, pension plan for those hire pre2006(?); ability to move laterally to different areas, so you can learn more about the business.

ConsRife with nepotism; promotions depends on how well you're liked, not at all on what you know; this causes low morale among some, myself included.
