    Great Work Experience During College

    Admissions Phonebank Student (Former Employee)
    Lawrence, KS

ProsI worked at the KU Admissions and Scholarships office for over 3 years during college and it was a great experience. My supervisor cared so much about all of her student employees so it felt great to have another support network on campus. Working hours were always flexible around our semester class schedules and pay was great for an on campus job. We were able to learn a lot about the university and share what we loved about the university to excited prospective students.

ConsThere were no cons with working at the Admissions office in college. I am so happy I had the opportunity to work there while I was in school!

They value your research as well as teaching capabilities

    Graduate Research Assistant (Current Employee)
    Lawrence, KS

ProsAs a faculty you have freedom of research, they will even build a specific laboratory just for you provided you have clear road-map in what you are going to do and convince them of the same.

ConsAs a student you are limited in your options to do research, it must be inline with the current research being done by any of the faculty member.

Advice to Senior ManagementAmple scope to expand the Engineering department by hiring more faculty, increasing the research funding and setting up industry collaborated research centres .

Not bad if you don't mind being in a basement.

    Graduate Research Assistant (Current Employee)
    Lawrence, KS

ProsThe experiences and opportunities at KU are phenomenal. It is a top tier research school. My department is often recognized for being number one for amount of grant funding to school and the professors are the most cited in articles compared to the whole school.

ConsPolitics and other unprofessional behavior which are standard in many work cultures but in academia in the Midwest are more pronounced.

Advice to Senior ManagementIts more departmental. But my advice to the department is to honestly discuss that while the pay is for 20 hours the expectation is more like 30 every week.

    Great place to work!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsOpen, friendly and supportive work environment. Nice town with lots of things to do and close proximity to Kansas City and Topeka. Good life and work balance, small town, good downtown with good restaurants and stores.

ConsParking issues - There is a great free bus service for students and staff that should be promoted more so there is less driving and parking on campus.

Advice to Senior ManagementDoing a good job so far, have enjoyed it here.
