The people were nice to work with, IS management is a little behind with the latest technology.

Applications Analyst (Former Employee)

I worked at The Valley Hospital full-time for more than a year

ProsFriendly work environment for the most part

ConsPoor leadership skills. IS has a huge turn over rate therefore they loose very talented people.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn how to listen to your employees and not to retaliate. Identify that there is a problem in your department when you have a department if approximately 70 people and within a year's time 15% plus have left for one reason or another.

Transparent, Organized, and proud of their accolades

Ultrasound Technician (Current Employee)
Ridgewood, NJ

I have been working at The Valley Hospital full-time for more than a year

ProsEmployees stay here... there is a low turnover. The environment is very nice to work in. People follow the protocols, policies, and procedures and everything is very well organized. The compensation is competitive, but so are your colleagues. The people that work here are good at what they do and you can learn a great deal from being here.

ConsSometimes too many policies and procedures are followed to a fault. It is the "stepford wives" of hospitals in that regard.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more appreciative of the hard work that the employees do here all year around, not only during rad week or holidays. Keys should be given for the flexibility that your staff shows in their schedule and for their good teamwork. Being too rigid with your staff about vacation and personal time off is not good, especially when your staff shows you flexibility for coverage on short notice when the hospital needs it. Recently this hospital reduced sick hours.

An Unfortunate Experience

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Paramus, NJ

I worked at The Valley Hospital

ProsThe Hospital is amazing. The patient care top notch. The benefits are fabulous. The employees truly care.

ConsThe employees are not appropriately rewarded for the contributions they make. Compensation is below standard. Bonuses for the staff level employee are based on patient satisfaction scores that are impossible to reach when the hospital is as busy as it is. Work life balance posture is anti quated. Some of the leaders in business support, Human Resources etc are complacent, have been there too long and turn a blind eye towards issues. A very Stepford Wives like environment. Talented high performers are quickly turned off and leave. There is no opportunity for advancement. Those who have been in positions of leadership for decades refuse to mentor for fear they will be replaced.

Advice to Senior ManagementSr Leadership needs to evaluate their employee policies, comp and work life programs. Time to adapt to the 21st century. Time to exit out the leaders who no longer get the job done. Run the business support offices more like a business and less like a country club and the hospital will be in a better place for the long haul.
