Former Employee – worked at The Zimmerman Agency as an intern for less than a year
Pros – The agency environment
Learning social media skills through doing
The other interns are all FSU students and you get pretty close
Cons – There was little to no instruction, I would spend all my time looking for something to do.
No introduction to company policies or even what you were supposed to do. Learned a lot of things through people being reprimanded for things we were never told
Advice to Senior Management – A little more instruction on the responsibilities could greatly increase intern productivity.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at The Zimmerman Agency part-time for more than a year
Pros – Beer Cart Friday is a fun way to close a long week. The office and people are pretty nice. Very intelligent leaders and they are great at what they do. It is a great place to START your career but don't stay too long.
Cons – Can be very hostile environment, poor compensation all around, high turn over rate. If you are part time you have no perks or fun and treated poorly.
Advice to Senior Management – Morale is low and I feel it is due to low compensation and high expectations. You did a great job hiring great people, but you need to show you care.

Former Employee – worked at The Zimmerman Agency part-time for less than a year
Pros – Really fun environment. Creativity is encouraged and they have beer cart Fridays! You also learn alot! The people you work directly with are really great and fun to be around. If I was paid better I would have stayed.
Cons – Low pay for entry level and part time (8/hr part time 30k full time) . Also Internships are unpaid. Poor communication from Carrie Zimmerman, for being the owner of the PR Agency you would think she would know how to use effective communication as opposed to screaming over the intercom like a child. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay better, re-teach Carrie communication. Keep the fun around it made handling Carrie much easier.

Former Employee – worked at The Zimmerman Agency
Pros – If you can handle being thrown into the flames and are intuitive enough to learn and play the game from the first day onward, you have the opportunity to gain a TON of experience you wouldn't otherwise get (due to the extremely high turnover). The fancy title you are promoted to will also look good on your resume. It's a job that will definitely help you advance in your next career move because of the opportunity to handle large amounts of responsibility on impressive global and national accounts. Lots of travel and advancement opportunities. Work with mostly young people and form friendships.
Cons – Unethical, unprofessional and unskilled senior level management. Young kids are promoted too soon and not qualified for the jobs they perform - clients get frustrated easily, and rightfully so, for this reason, but the wrong people fall on the sword. Clients are not given the work they pay for/ are told they will receive because of the lack of experienced professionals they don't realize are on their "teams" (usually one, two, or three people for retainers of $20,000 + a month). Training does not exist. Employees are encouraged to lie. CEOs are verbally abusive. Lies are circulated from the top down about past employees/clients/current employees, which creates a nasty environment. Employees are overworked and not permitted to take time off they deserve after slaving multiple weekends of unpaid overtime. Taking a lunch is frowned upon. HR department is non-existent. Nepotism is king and favoritism for the wrong reasons reigns supreme. If you want to know why marketing/PR firms get a bad rap, visit The Zimmerman Agency.
Advice to Senior Management – None.

Current Employee – been working at The Zimmerman Agency
Pros – - Great experience
- They are very good about giving lower level employees a chance to shine if you show potential
- Fun people that make for a great social life outside of work
- A chance to work on top-tier brands in a smaller city
Cons – - VERY unprofessional in how they handle things internally
- very political in the way they hire and promote...it becomes a popularity contest
- not much direction or coaching from supervisors..you're left to figure things out on your own and penalized unfairly
Advice to Senior Management – At least pretend you somewhat care about the development and well-being of your employees. Start making some kind of an effort to retain your best employees. You lose too many good people because of insulting indifference from upper management.

Former Employee – worked at The Zimmerman Agency
Pros – Zimmerman's an engaging and fast-paced environment working on important global and local accounts. Working there will simulate the experience of a large New York ad agency in sleepy Tallahassee and should prepare you well for experiences in larger cities. They pay well and have a great benefits package.
Cons – You will be tempted to sleep in your office. This company simulates all of the negative parts of a large New York ad agency by encouraging employees to work long hours (including weekends) to make deadlines and stay ahead of the curve. Actual work hours may be decreased by office "parties": mandatory attendance- bad alcohol will be served. Most people don't last longer than two years at the agency before burning out from the long hours and bickering from other sleep-deprived, anxious, creative people. Good place to learn, bad place to live.
Advice to Senior Management – Please support your staff and encourage cross-pollination and cooperation amongst departments. Having an average lifespan of two years may keep the brand "fresh" but also cuts into your ability to plan long-term as you constantly have to retrain.

Former Employee – worked at The Zimmerman Agency
Pros – For an agency located in Tallahassee, they have the talent, confidence, and fortitude to compete with any agency in the world.
The owners will push you, but they push themselves 3 times as hard. If you're working late, they are working late right along with you. Their drive and commitment to excellence is contagious.
As a professional The Zimmerman Agency afforded me the opportunity to use my skills and talents in a broad range of design, communications, and new business.
Cons – I have no cons about the agency. People will complain about hours at times, but it's the business of advertising. I really enjoyed my experience at The Zimmerman Agency, they supported and provided me the confidence and resources to start my own business.
Advice to Senior Management – My advice to senior leadership will be to increase their commitment to teaching. I learned a lot from the senior leadership in the agency.

Former Employee – worked at The Zimmerman Agency
Pros – - Integrate with talented & experienced senior level management
- Collaborate with teams in other departments to get a 360 degree view of how everything comes together.
- Gain the necessary experience to advance in your career
- Solid benefits & 401K program: Fully vested after 3 years
- Opportunity to work within a diverse portfolio of International brands.
- Social council plans events & athletic teams that build comradery between employees
- Company sends you anywhere in the world for your 5 year anniversary
- Beer cart & flex hour Fridays
Cons – - The Zimmerman Agency only has one location in Tallahassee, Florida
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to hire young, driven professionals that work closely with upper management to get the necessary experience they need to advance in their career. Upper management should continue to attend seminars regarding new advancements in media arts in order to brief lower level employees. Also, continue to treat employees like family. The ability to count on your co-workers like a family member goes a long way.
