The company is consistently evolving with new products and services for the laboratory industry

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsOpportunities to work with cross functional teams in business units across the corporation to grow the portfolio of chemicals, consumables and instrument platforms.

ConsManagement is not always there to support you or understand the detailed responsibilities of workers' tasks on a day to day basis. This is important in order to understand and troubleshoot issues that we regularly face in projects. Limited career advancement and opportunities within the business unit.

Advice to Senior ManagementSupport your team members and understand their daily job functions and responsibilities

ThermoFisher Scientific is a good old boy organization. Wrong company for change agents.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsNever a boring day. Lots of work to do.. sometimes it never ends. Great for analytic types and controlling personalities who come into management. TMO tries to be customer driven with focus on CAS scoring. Great people on the front line who actually care about the needs of the customer.

ConsNot the organization if you are looking for "can do" and "empowered" decision making. Lot of analysis by paralysis. Finance drives everything.run by a very strong good old boy network.

Advice to Senior ManagementBlow up the Bully pulpit management style and start reconnecting with your people who are your real assets.

    Busy and stressful

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsPeople doing the work are great. Almost everyone is willing to help you, even if they are overworked. Lots of fringe benefits due to company size.

ConsWork life balance is a joke. Policy seems to be work the good people until they quit and hope the remaining people can pick up the work. Management not responsive to employee needs. For a science company, technology the workers use is extremely outdated.

    Advice to Senior ManagementStaff appropriately.

May be ok if you're used to large stuffy corporations. Otherwise, don't waste time.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Waltham, MA

ProsGood benefits. Many opportunities to transition between businesses given the size of the company

    ConsCorporate office extremely political
Stuffy and uptight atmosphere with C-level leadership extremely cold and removed
Scarce promotions, no culture for timely performance rewards and proper motivation, promotions are often given only if the employee puts an outside offer on the table, major disproportion in rewarding leadership for a team effort, performance evaluations are a joke and are always done after your bonus or raise for the next year is long determined
Increasing focus on cutting costs vs. innovation and smart risk taking
Common to meet individuals with some nasty values at very high positions in the company, which makes you wonder about the overall values of the company
Out of dozens of division presidents, no woman and 90% white

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize that in order to be competitive in the long run, you need to change the culture within. Advertising an open culture can create a prettier image for the company, but word of mouth will always be more powerful.

    Review of experience at ThermoFisher

    Sales Representative (Current Employee)
    Madison, WI

ProsThe pay at ThermoFisher is competitive and overall benefits are okay. The people I do work with are good people and do care about their jobs. Someone is always willing to help you with any questions.

ConsThe new health insurance thru Unity is very bad and for a company this size it should have better health care. Very little emphasis on training, it always comes up in your performance evaluation but your requests to get training are ignored. Current manager is very poor and upper management just seems to let her slide by and ignore her terrible performance.

Advice to Senior ManagementA good place to start out and it would depend what group or division you would get a position. The company is a typical big corporation.
