I worked at Third Federal Savings and Loan Association full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, good people and low expectations of work force so no pressure environment

    Cons

Non-professional work environment. Lack of true growth opportunities for professional staff. Senior management will juggle professional staff into roles they have never held or are qualified for in an effort to create artificial growth opportunities. This philosophy has created an environment that has weakened the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on creating true career growth opportunities for professional staff to keep the bank strong stable and safe. CEO needs to put more trust into recently hired external professionals that have more global banking knowledge and experience.

I worked at Third Federal Savings and Loan Association full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Work/life balance exists with Third Federal.

The actual employees in IT were a great bunch. Very sharp.

    Cons

Zero career growth opportunities in IT. This is not an exaggeration.

Management doesn't want contributors. They want grunts.

If you're a take charge type, don't look to excel. You -will- be held down. IT Management wants to look good to the B/U, and it will be at your expense.

Constant micromanagement leads to terrible employee morale. You are given zero freedom to be creative, and all rollouts are designed by non-technical roles. If it fails because of terrible design and planning, you will find yourself under that bus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Executive Management - Your IT management needs a serious overhaul. You don't hear about it because there is a culture of fear built in to the department. No one will say anything or offer criticism due to a (very well founded) fear of retribution.

IT Management - Stop micromanaging. Start letting your top talent design your solutions. Accountability! Let go of your egos and make it group success, not individidual success of your own. You have top market talent that is going to waste and will leave the company if they continue to feel underutilized. You are naive to think other companies are not chomping at the bit to have some of those guys!

    Pros

stable, work life balance, a steady paycheck

    Cons

low pay, little opportunity, mindless work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to listen to people on the front line. You are complety disconnected from reality. Lose the cult culture in Cleveland, Offer porducts that customers acutally would like

I have been working at Third Federal Savings and Loan Association

    Pros

It's easy going, we are not commissioned so there is no need to push a customer into something they don't want or need. We have no individual sales goals. The communication between the corporate office and the associates is done electronically and is up to date. The company really believes that their associates should have a family life and also fun at work!! Still gives bonuses in these low ecomomic times.

    Cons

Some of the new managers really think highly of themselves, and act like it, even though they don't know any more than some of the people working under them. The company should take much more time in finding the right branch managers, people who know how to manage people not just paper, instead of looking at diversity or age. The health insurance is sub-standard and expensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start to take a closer look at how many of your associates are on the internet and cell phones all day long.

    limited products and services offered
limited opportunities for growth, almost too conservative for own good
    no real incentives
