I have been working at Thomas Cook (India)

    Pros

Its a pioneer in its field. Hence people interested in the field of tourism / foreign exchange its ok.

    Cons

Work culture is very bureaucratic. Company is froth with nepotism. Merit & Education have no value. Its a waste for management graduates to be a part of this organization. Designations are meaningless. People across designation do the same work at different salaries. In fact people with the same designation could have a huge difference in their salaries. Stunted growth opportunities.

    Pros

    1. Good launch pad for freshers.
    2. Work-life balance depends on different branches and seasons.
    3. Training is good but very limited.

    Cons

    1. Bossy senior management.
    2. Absolutely ZERO staff benefits in foreign exchange.
    3. No respect for staff comforts. Expects us to be a cow.
    4. No recognition even if you are doing good for the company.
    5. No policy to keep its staff happy.
    6. Salary is pathetic. An MBA graduate with 2 years experience working in less salary than fresher graduate.
    7. Salary of a graduate is just around 15k (take home)
    8. The environment becomes depressing to work in when there is nobody to acknowledge the work you do.
    9. Always short in staff and expects the present staffs to fill the gap.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change your policy towards taking care of employees and keeping them happy.

I worked at Thomas Cook (India) full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company has a strong brand, long history, good track record and aggressive expansion plans. The people are excellent to work with and there is a lot of potential for the company to grow.

    Cons

Internal controls and governance processes need a lot of improvement. Things are still very people oriented and not process oriented. A lot of good employees have quit because of these issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please look at improving internal inefficiencies and I'm sure it will add to the bottom line. Also invest in your employees and listen to them genuinely. These will also result in better employee satisfaction and performance.

Slow in progression, could better as a paymaster.
