Ability to learn and improve is one of the major experiences I had in this company

I have been working at Thompson Creek full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pros: Excellent people to work with; opportunity to climb the ladder; Focused on safety; Executive team: COO visits sites frequently; CFO: knowledgeable, Friendly and minimizes gaps with employees; New CEO on board implementing changes for the better

    Cons

Cons: Similar to other mining companies; travel and distance make it hard for work-life balance; Better process documentation and process management is needed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue improving processes and standardize policies and procedures. Document processes. Focusing on information sharing, lean, 6 sigma, and CI is the next step to follow. Introducing new management methodologies through Agile and Business Analysis is also recommended. Retain good employees

Lot's of opportunity to develop, mostly because they never have enough people to match the work being performed.

I worked at Thompson Creek full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You can move up quickly as long as you are willing to go above and beyond which is expected, decent time-off and comp time at the operations, operations have a great working environment, decent compensation for the market. If you work here, working at the operations is where you want to go where there are established policies, procedures, and consistent management styles.

    Cons

No work-life balance, expected to work 50+ hours to complete 2 people's jobs since they will not hire additional people, no consistency in management style, CFO tends to play favorites, which demoralizes the rest of the corporate accounting group, no set policies and procedures which allows management to make decisions on the fly without any planning whatsoever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be consistent with managing employees, create and follow policies and procedures, especially in human resources, create a culture of planning your work and working the plan rather than reactive management, recognize employees for hard work by matching headcount to the actual work that needs to be done.

Lots of turnover, industry is struggling, profits are poor

I have been working at Thompson Creek full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

A steady paycheck and benefits are always a good thing.

    Cons

Lean staffing so employees must shoulder the burden by working excessively long hours. Too many expensive external consultants. Heavy turnover at the top, including announced departure of CEO Loughrey. Do your research as the entire industry is challenging. So bonuses are poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of your employees who have been there forever and have no incentive to improve.

    Pros

The people I worked with at Thompson Creek are some of the best people I have ever known. The work environment overall is quickly paced, but never overwhelming. The presence on site of senior management creates a solid culture of disclosure and goal transparency.

    Cons

Benefits package left a little to be desired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase insurance coverage for your full-time employees.
