Former Employee – worked at Thomson Reuters as a contractor for more than 3 years
Pros – Good Pay as a contractor
Cons – Limited involvement due to being a contractor despite holding the role for a number of years
Too much reliance on contractors meaning talent and knowledge lost reguarly
Advice to Senior Management – Hire people for the long term, not to fill gaps

Current Employee – been working at Thomson Reuters full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – There are lots of opportunities to work in great locations as Thomson Reuters is in over 100 countries. The company culture is highly geared towards promoting work-life balance, and parts of the company have great reputations in the market.
Cons – The company is extremely large so it can be difficult to change direction or implement new projects. There has been a distinct lack of accountibility for decision makers, and management does not place enough value on recruiting the best of the best. While the company has great values on paper they do not always translate into the best practices.
Advice to Senior Management – Do not be afraid to try something new, but test, test, test. It is better to do something right and have a higher chance of success than to rush something to market.

Former Employee – worked at Thomson Reuters full-time
Pros – Great social calendar and collegiate atmosphere
Cons – Poor management lacking business nous
Petty politics
Contact Law is unprofitable division of much larger Findlaw business, and wider Thomson Reuters
therefore there is little budget for retaining and developing talent or developing new products at the speed the market demands
Advice to Senior Management – Hire talent externally, quickly, to run this business unit
Outsource inefficient cost base - particularly the casehandler function, retaining limited people in house
Move location to corporate HQ in Canary Wharf to attract (and retain) better talent. Earlsfield is not an attractive place to work for most Londoners

Former Employee – worked at Thomson Reuters full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Undemanding :-( OK if you are raising a young family, working on a novel or a qualification.
Cons – As a software developer you face an uphill battle getting anything less than 7 years old adopted. Most IT managers do not have a technical background including the CTO. The business folks are wedded to waterfall and PRINCE2
Advice to Senior Management – Sack anyone who has been in the same post for 7 years who cannot demonstrate innovation in the last 12 months.

Former Employee – worked at Thomson Reuters
Pros – Great work/life balance; nice perks like stock options etc; undemanding; potential for moving to other jobs within the company as you can see the adverts at any rate
Cons – not much transparency, ultra bureaucratic, poor managerial culture; big company with not much accountability and no sense that senior management knows what's going on; staff don't seem to be respected or rated much
Advice to Senior Management – get rid of some of the dead wood lower level managers and make it more competitive

Current Employee – been working at Thomson Reuters
Pros – Good work-life balance. If you wake up with a steaming hang-over, you can ring in and work from home.
My immediate colleagues are outstanding.
Cons – Career development is based upon kissing up to the boss. You'll only be promoted as long as you play golf with the right people.
Senior managers completely out of touch with the workforce. "Brown bag lunches" are not the solution to the problems of career development.
Zero training. Zero travel.
Poor facilities in high-cost locations.
Below-inflation pay-rises are a pay cut.
Constant state of abject fear and terror due to outsourcing.
Many people have effectively given up, and are waiting for the axe.
Advice to Senior Management – I really don't think there is a lot I can say here. Every year in the staff survey, the staff tell the management EXACTLY what is wrong. And every year, the company studiously ignores those results. It is said that the EXCOM have a deliberate policy of treating the satff badly; after all, if on-shore staff resign, they don't have to pay them redundancy money when they subsequently off-shore those roles.

Current Employee – been working at Thomson Reuters
Pros – Flexible Working hours
Growth Opportunities
Multiple Fields of expertise
Working with experts
Opportunities to change career easily
Multi-cultural and multi-national working
Cons – Below par in comparison to other financial institutions
Too departmentalised
Poor communication between teams
Poor sharing between teams
Too many middle managers
Some people too set in their ways and haven't embraced the merger of Thomson and Reuters (an obvious 'them and us culture')
Advice to Senior Management – Engage more with the employees (present and future) and find out what they want from the company. Aim to integrate the different parts of the business both in work and outside of work.

Current Employee – been working at Thomson Reuters
Pros – The work life balance is fantastic.
Working globally provides an abundance of skills and knowledge.
Culture and team cohesion is brilliant.
Cons – With the organisation being such an immense size it is difficult to understand all the activities across the entire organisation.
Advice to Senior Management – For a greater employee confidence and understanding of where the business is heading in the future, a clear business strategy needs to be cascaded down the organisation.
