I worked at Thomson Reuters full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Really good benefits and official policies that make it clear that the company wants to be a good place to work. A really strong brand too.
Cons – There is a sense that management doesn't want make to make waves and may even place professional advancement above working for the best interests of the company. For example, a business unit head may have an "open door, open email" policy to encourage feedback, but employees would be rightfully reticent to expose themselves by making a suggestion. So, I think there is a bit of cynicism toward the "You can make a difference" message sent out by senior management. In fact, I would say that all internal communications are read with a collective smirk by anyone who has been there any length of time.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep trying to change the culture and beware of yes-men (and women). Think about the stock price long-term, not short-term.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

I worked at Thomson Reuters as a contractor for more than a year

I have been working at Thomson Reuters full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – family friendly policies, easy to work from home, good benefits, easy to work in different capacities and take on new challenges
Cons – product development slow, too much "dead wood", too many experienced people made redundant and their jobs being outsourced to Asia which created an atmosphere of lack of responsibility and lack of knowledge, flagship product Eikon not up to scratch
Advice to Senior Management – become faster and more snappy and value your good and experienced people

I have been working at Thomson Reuters full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Very good work/life balance. Extremely flexible, so long as you deliver on time. Management allow pet projects to be undertaken and show a genuine interest in their result
Cons – Pay is not linked to performance. Frustrating structure doesn't make it easy to collaborate across silo's, need to encourage agile teams across the organisation.
Advice to Senior Management – Tighter alignment of pay to performance.

I worked at Thomson Reuters as a contractor
Pros – Fantastic work-life balance, great location in Canary Wharf, offices are superb.
Your co-workers are hard working and care deeply about the brand
People are friendly and easy to get on with
Cons – In all my 15 years of contracting and consulting this is the first place I would turn down an extension at (and did). There is a culture of people being promoted and hired because they are liked.
Management are arrogant with no people skills and an "I know better than everyone else"
Politics at the top mean that unless your face fits, you will not proceed. I was not affected by this as I am a contractor, but it was so disheartening to observe.
People promoted because it was their turn
People made redundant because they were not liked
My senior manager was one of the most unprofessional people I have ever worked with and openly boasted of having favourites and about all of the complaints made against her in the past, as if they were a badge of honour.
Advice to Senior Management – Clear out your senior management team, especially within Net Comms, they have been there too long and think that because they have, they know more than others.

I have been working at Thomson Reuters full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Flexible corporate culture in terms of family commitments, working from home when necessary, etc and also in terms of the work we are asked to do - innovation and personal projects are encouraged in my team. There are some smart people here. Good job security, on the whole.
Cons – Relatively poor pay for the financial services industry. Lack of direction from senior management in terms of product investment and focus over and above general slogans. Lack of clarity on how certain executive level initiatives (in terms of company restructuring) can actually be implemented successfully and without detriment to the business.
Advice to Senior Management – The executive team should ask their reports to look more closely at the specifics - people on the ground doing the work need detail. A seemingly endless reshuffling of executives has little to no bearing on decisions about products - and this is what customers care about.

I have been working at Thomson Reuters full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – + Good benefits
+ Fair annual performance reviews
+ Intelligent co-workers
Cons – - Hard to drive change at times
- Large initiatives squeeze out more dynamic and innovative projects
- Poor annual pay rises for last 5 years
Advice to Senior Management – Set a respectable pay budget - at least inflation, and allow extra for promotions.
Encourage / enable innovation (not just coming up with ideas but actually taking them somewhere)
