Scared monkeys sitting at a round table

Executive (Current Employee) Los Angeles, CA

Prosinternational company; diversified assets and areas of operation; multinational employee population; some strong brands; transversal offerings; extensive patent portfolio; talented worker bees

Consmultinational employee population (cross cultural misunderstanding); lack of top-level executive vision or leadership; lack of identity; weak long-term research investment; fragmented disciplines; siloed departments; no integration protocols (numerous recent acquisitions with zero integration); provincial thinking; misdirected retention policies (driven by French union regulations, rather than merit); declining value in patent portfolio; too many chefs; little corporate understanding of divisional value

Advice to Senior Managementtake the time to explore, develop, and implement clear and consistent strategy; give executive staff the reins; make decisions and stick with them for more than a month; stop being drive nby the bottom line ALL the time and open yourselves up to the concept of visionary management and focus.

Where is the pride in product? How far can you push your people?

Engineer (Former Employee) Nevada City, CA

ProsHigh technology in video distribution. You can learn alot when you apply yourself. Good place to start if your looking for an Engineering carer in video switching. Good if you are hourly becuase they will work you 60hr weeks.

ConsPoor management. Employees never get time off without guilt trip from management. Resource allocation is non existant. Difficult to raise a heathy family with the required manditory work hours. Always under staffed and behind schdual on projects. Poor motivation for long term employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementStaff at appropriate levels, stop working your people into the dirt. Offer a future in the company for the people that survive the long work hours. Bring back the GVG standard in excellence.

Worked for a division of Thomson in IT support which provided a very average experience overall.

IT Support Analyst (Former Employee) North Indianapolis, IN

ProsMany opportunities for engaging work combined with coworkers who were knowledgeable and shared passion for their work.

ConsCompared to other internal IT organizations there is little if any investment in training and the emphasis was making do with less.

    Good company, sometimes horrible management

Product Manager (Former Employee) Indianapolis, IN

ProsGreat people, excellent engineers who knows what they're doing. The company has a wide IP portfolio, and has a solid business tie-in with many leading media service providers.

ConsThe French don't seem interested in taking a leadership position in any of the products, a lot of leadership issues, revolving executives. HR typically only pays lip service to employee development, check-the-box type reviews. Line managers who really care can be hamstrung by their immediate supervisors.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou've got world class employees, all they need is leadership & a vision, just make sure the executive staff can come up with executable strategies.

started off as a great place to work, but moral has dropped significantly

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Indianapolis, IN

ProsPay is okay, and the midwest is a good place to raise a family. Programs are fast paced and usually challenging.

ConsMoral is terrible, mostly due to the years of down sizing and constant budget pressures. Recent changes in benefits (specifically 401K, pension, and health coverage in retirement) show the companies lack of care and dedication to empoyees.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt feels like you have stopped investing in the Indy site and are trying to suck the last bits out of the remaining employees. You really need to address the moral issues.
