    Chicago Facade Group Poorly Managed

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsMany of the projects are high visibility for well known clients; good names and projects to have under your belt.

ConsManagement does not manage the staff, projects or clients well. Staff is left wondering what they are supposed to be doing then to have last minute deadlines with uncertain direction. Working in this group is like working in a small shop with little hope for exposure to the wider firm or for growth.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet managers with professional project and people management skills. Discourage the silo mentality and encourage more collaboration. Look around at what other top-rated companies are doing to retain talented people.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great experience/exposure but at the cost of work/life balance.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsGreat portfolio of projects
Some really great gems of people are scattered throughout the company
    Good resources
Opportunities to transfer between offices & practice sectors (pending economy & availability)

    ConsSink or swim mentality
Culture may not be for everyone
Work/life balance is often a struggle
Culture/values/outlook vary between local offices (could also be a pro)

Advice to Senior ManagementRemind Management as the company grows and becomes more and more "corporate" to not forget the "keep it real" values of the earlier years.

High profile projects, top notch engineers

    Senior Engineer (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsProjects are high profile, interesting. Get to work with the world's top architects. General feeling of pride about working here.

Seems that everyone who works here is smart, friendly, and involved in extra curriculars. (there's always a couple though...)

The company does a good job of fostering collaboration and inclusiveness across all levels and offices.

ConsCan be alot of work for less pay than other structural firms. But, they're designing parking garages in the suburbs, so... not too bad of a con.

Could get stuck working for one boss only

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep periodically checking

    rewarding experience

    Senior Engineer (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThere's a part of TT that I identify with: interesting projects, engaged and ambitious engineers, lots of young guys brimming with energy, senior folks that make themselves available, smart and kind project managers. For me, the number one attraction of TT was this culture of freely sharing the resources internally.

ConsRushed submittals with only cursory checks. Poorly managed manpower, with over- and understaffed projects overseen by the same people at the same office. Poor feedback and little appreciation shown for your work. The idea is that your hourly wage can keep you at your desk for any length of time. High turnover that nobody takes cues from.

A great place to experience all sorts of structures and grow as an engineer

    Engineer (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsGreat projects, wonderful learning opportunities, great people, very open about new projects, financials, etc.

ConsSometimes the work/life balance can tilt too heavily towards work

    Photography - Portrait (Current Employee)

ProsVery clear about needs and great with communication. They were clear about their budget and have paid reasonably promptly to date.

ConsNone that I have experienced in my dealings with the Los Angeles and Irvine offices of this company to date.

    Bad work environment, good porjects

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

ProsInteresting and challenging projects. Wide variety of projects. If you forget you have a life outside of work, you will do very well.

ConsLong hours, low pay. Though that seems to be the norm in the industry.
Worst was the "I am the boss, you are the employee" kind of attitude by senior management. More than once I was told "to keep my boss happy!!!"
    Not a good team environment.
The reason for bad bonus and lousy pay increase is ofcourse the "recession" though it is clear from the work load and fees that the office is doing well. And then when senior staff keep getting promoted every year, you wonder if all they tell you is true.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of all your employees, not just the senior staff.
