Passionate people.
Different technologies to work with.
Open source.
Lot of eposure
Cons
Work life balance.
Sometimes travel.
Nothing much to add here
Pros
Work with some of the smartest people in the industry.
Make a difference to the world
Benefit from a close knit community
Cons
Customer commitment comes first - don't join if you don't want to make some sacrifices for the customer
We're a collective - we succeed when everyone takes ownership of the company. There are tough times, and you'll need to be tough during that time.
Life on the road isn't easy - involves a lot of travel.
Don't expect a ready made career path - you need to have a passion and drive towards it.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn from the industry, don't be cocky. There are other smart people out there and plenty smart companies. We can learn from all of them.
Pros
Great people and good perks
Cons
Expectation to spend lots of hours outside client-hours at TW.
Pros
-Work with smart people
-Opportunity to get in touch with other cultures
-Very open environment.
Cons
Salary and benefits still need some upgrades.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the good work!!!
Pros
Technical staff is very knowledgeable
Great environment with non-management staff
Well known for Agile innnovation
Looks good on a resume
Pretty good benefits
Cons
Be prepared for the president of the company to insult your religious beliefs
Consultants are expected to be on the road Sun thru Thurs and in the office on Friday. Basically work more than 50 hours per week- not including travel
Little respect for non-liberals and the military
US leaders are not well educated in business management and don't have good relationships with non-managers
Very disorganized
No respect for operations people and non-consultants
Lots of staff turnover
New comers are outside the clicks and don't get treated equally
Employee morale is very low-- people don't feel appreciated
No mentoring or formal learning opportunities
Keep in mind that when they win the Best Places to Work Awards its only because they pay for them.
Advice to Senior Management
Clean house with US executives. When people talk about the terrible egos they are talking about the senior manager. Ask yourself why so many people have gone to Groupon and Braintree...and don't look back. Get a clue about how to run a global business.
Pros
- Some very clever people
- Reasonable salary package
- Nice new Mac Pro
- Free soft drinks in the office
Cons
- For an 'Agile' organisation they are very dogmatic. It has to be "The Thoughtworks way"
- Very arrogant people.
- Prior experience seems irrelevent. Only long standing TW'ers are listened to.
- Lots of travelling.
- Lots of after hours meetings
Advice to Senior Management
- Don't ignore lateral hires experience.
Pros
- Amazing people
- Tech savvy
- Freedom to do things
- Good place to work for freshers
Cons
- Variety of work
- Selective opportunities
- Lateral hires will have much expectations from the org but usually are disappointed . Not inducted well
- Lot of groupism . If you belong to the influential group, you will end up getting more opportunities
- Assignments are given based on perceptions not work .Perceptions can be a mental block towards somebody's good work
- Not much clarity towards project assignments especially in Pune
- If you question the influential people, you might be asked to leave quoting performance issues
- Incapable management team
- Lot of internal politics has started ripping it
Advice to Senior Management
- Start treating everyone equally
- Bring some discipline in project assignments
- Give opportunities to everyone equally not to selected few
- Perceptions are not true judge of a person's abilities
- Respect people's talents and time devoted to org
- Build trusting environment
Pros
Smart people,
Opportunity to meet people from other countries,
Diversity,
Good environment to ask for feedback and mentoring,
Great environment in general.
Cons
When you join TW you have the highest expectations, so it's really easy to be disappointed.
Everyone joins TW hopping to work with awesome people, new technologies in challenging projects, travel abroad and maybe move to another office. That's why people join TW even with the low salaries and making less money then they used to make in their previous jobs. When people realize they expectations are not going to happen people will start to leave for better paying jobs at Dell, HP and other companies.
Salaries are really low in comparison with other companies in the same area, the management have to understand that making less 30% in USA, UK and India is different from 30% less in Brazil.
Advice to Senior Management
Please start listening people, pay attention to the awesome guys you have there! People management doesn't exist, nobody comes to the desks or the kitchen to talk with us, people are very far from management.
Pros
There are certainly some smart people and interesting problems when you start. There's lots of travel opportunities too. They're also great to have on your CV.
Cons
See the same problems over and over...
Pros
- Everybody is high technically skilled.
- Good environment
- Challenging work
Cons
- Salaries are usually lower than other competitors in the same city. Some salaries are good (especially in the senior bands ) but if you are a jr. consultant, you'll have to live with your mom for a longer time
