  1.

Great experience for a young engineer to receive some insight into the world of manufacturing engineering.

Former Employee - Manufacturing Engineering Intern in Danville, IL

I worked at ThyssenKrupp as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    Pros:

The engineers that work here are very helpful and ready to help you take on a project and succeed as an engineering student.

Company allows you to choose an area and project that you are interested in rather than assigning you a project.

    Cons

    Cons:

    Low wages for interns.

Internship program is not well developed.

Choosing your own project can be intimidating for new engineers.

    Pros

Benefits are decent .... that's the only pro.

    Cons

No team work and that's management's fault.... my dept. pitted employee against employee

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I worked at ThyssenKrupp full-time

    Pros

Stable company, it is not going to fail.

    Cons

Slow to make decisions that affect the workers in a positive way.
Lean principles can be so extreme that it hinders productivity, especially in an office environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staffing for IT needs to support projects to completion. The project to transfer data will never happen until there is an analyst or two dedicated to see it finished.

Current Employee - Production Quality Engineer  in  Terre Haute, IN
Current Employee - Production Quality Engineer in Terre Haute, IN

I have been working at ThyssenKrupp full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good salary, valuable work experience, clean work environment, some of the non-management personnel are easy to get along with most of the time.

    Cons

Upper management rules by fear, intimidation, and strictly negative reinforcement. You will never get a pat on the back for a job well done, but if you make a single misstep you will hear about and be scolded by at least 3 of your superiors. There is literally no work/life balance and if you are salaried then you should expect to work a minimum of 55 hours a week (in fact, that is what is expected of you) and you will be expected to literally always be able to answer your work cell phone. If you happen to miss a call even if it was at 3:00 am, you will be scolded for it as soon as you get to work the following day. If you go home after a 9 hour day, your character and work ethic will be called into question by upper management. There is a great deal of unprofessional hostility between all departments which will make your job more stressful than you can imagine. Not only this, but even within the poorly managed quality group you will find hostility between coworkers whether it is spoken or not. Training is nearly non-existent, superiors and coworkers hoard information, and your character will constantly be called into question no matter how hard you work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a shift from negative reinforcement to positive reinforcement, stop the information hoarding, address the hostility among and within the different departments, allow for a work/life balance, work more closely with and show more concern for your engineers.
