Pros
Safway offered a challenging environment that allowed for great personal growth. The employees are great to work with, and many of them are very talented.
If you were a "fit' for the company, you're unlimited in not only what you do, but in your earning potential.
Cons
Poor upper management and a very top heavy executive team. The formally known "family" feel has turned into a very authoritative culture.
Employees are not valued as they were in the past. While benefits and raises are either eliminated or reduced, top management keeps growing. High pressure with little regard for employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on employees more - value, respect and learn from them. Open the doors and make a positive impression. It is possible to have a successful business with happy employees. Larger companies do this very well. I feel too much time is spent by upper management on changing others, they need to be open to changing themselves.
Pros
Pay can be okay depending on your position.
Cons
Not much opportunity for advancement.
Pros
Upward Mobility, Great Compensation, Fantastic Product Lines, Great Benefits, Stellar Engineering Department, Plenty of Resources, Excellent Tools to make the Job Easier.
Cons
Somewhat of an inconsistant pay schedule. No more company vehicles; although you do receive a stipend. You pretty much have to be available 24/7/365.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work. I plan on retiring from Safway. I would not have stayed with the company this long if I was dissatisfied at all.
Pros
The company as a whole is a great place to work. There are many talented, hardworking people.
Cons
No communication when needed. Employee morale is very low due to local management and support of local management from corporate management. Style of management is to bully and threaten. The lower you are on the totum pole the less respect you receive. Do not know how to empower and motivate their people.
Advice to Senior Management
Know that there some highly qualified people working for you. You cannot run a company with just upper management, you need the base and middle layer as well. Treat your employees with respect and recognize when jobs are done well. The job they do is important to the company too. You do not need to manage with a hatchet held over employees head. This is not a motivational tool nor will it make someone want to do their best for the company.
Pros
large company, financial stability, favorable name recognition, well known in industry. Complete and well balanced product line. Engineering and training depts. well organized and thorough. Material and equipment is well designed and easy to use. Service builders have structured environment. Trucking and material handling are well organized and all forms and procedures are outlined well.
Cons
top down management, little regard for the employees. Huge and growing corporate management burden that the branches are forced to absorb, creating less opportunity at the branch level. Employees have little value to the company. Other ThyssenKrupp companies have a much better work environment than the Safway division.
Advice to Senior Management
realize that the customers and employees providing service to the customers are what grows the company and company profitabilty. More concerned about short term bottom line profits over long term profits and service.
