    Pros

Employees, worthy cause and rewarding work!

    Cons

Senior Management did not understand the market and tried to adapt other technology business models to this company. I hear that the new staff is better, but that remains to be seen! I agree with many of the other posts as well!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't focus on your sales numbers focus on market share! Business will come and deals will come.

I have been working at Tiburon, Inc. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The products make a difference in the real world, helping the clients help real people - friends and neighbors, or those who could be. You really feel like your contribution is making a positive difference in the world. Some of the products are really exceptional. The people are generally exceptional as well - especially co-workers and peers at the "worker bee" level.

    Cons

Over work, under planning, and poor communication. There are not enough resources for the expectations placed on them. The poor planning and communication means that those resources are often getting yanked around, and fire-fighting because of previous poor decisions is a common reason for current/future poor decisions, where something gets done slap-dash because fire-fighting took too much time.

The company has gone through a series of upper management before settling with the current group. There is a lot of history of different - mostly bad - management in the past. Long-time employees will act according to bad habits or knee-jerk reactions formed under prior management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the course you say you're on, but please try to improve planning, and please consider whether you have all the resources you need for something before setting it in motion.

I worked at Tiburon, Inc. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Tiburon generally leaves its employees alone, as long as they get their work done. Tiburon's products (software for police and fire departments) have a real effect on real people. Tiburon pays pretty well.

    Cons

High pressure and long hours. Programmers are often pulled from their official assignment in order to fight fires. The code review process is a joke: the code is often reviewed by someone that doesn't know anything about the code; other times the programmer will list someone as a code reviewer that never even looked at the code.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tiburon was built on developing customized software for their clients. Each state, and sometimes each city, has different reporting requirements. If you want to keep winning the big jobs, you'll need to retain this flexibility.

I worked at Tiburon, Inc. as a contractor (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Public safety is an incredibly rewarding market. The clients are the best, and the technical problems are addictive. But management is skilled at detecting employees who "love" their work - and it will be used for their personal gain. You will be taken to the limit of physical and mental endurance. Expect little to no praise for doing your job well, expect to get blamed and beat up if you take a risk and don't succeed, and expect those who consistently screw up to be rewarded for solving their own problems.

    Cons

Revolving door of executive bozos only care about sales, profit - and their bonus package. Same name, different faces. They hire, they fire, they chase everyone away...the cycle repeats: New Management! And the turf wars rage. Watch your back! No one you work with will...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend a month onsite serving an agency.

I worked at Tiburon, Inc. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Not much micro-management.
-Customers will to give the company a chance because it is cheaper and easier than going out to RFP for a new CAD and RMS

    Cons

    -Customer patience wearing thin
-Lay-offs are always looming around the corner
-Too much to do with not enough people- they keep having layoffs and now the customers are suffering from neglect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring people just to fire them later in the year. Find a happy balance of employees and stick with them.

I have been working at Tiburon, Inc. full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Employed is about the only thing I can come up with right now?

    Cons

Lack of training , lack of advancement, work anywhere between 50-80 hours in a week depending on travel and other items with no extra days off. Poor salary compared to others. Extra work put fourth by employees goes unappreciated.

If you don't know the people in upper management you might as well be a peon for the rest of your life.

CEO says how well the company is doing , then in the next statement announces layoffs.

    Get it together

I worked at Tiburon, Inc. full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Your work helps public safety do their jobs more effectively and more safely, so you are ultimately helping the community that public safety is there to protect and serve as well as helping the first responders themselves.

    - Great place to come and stay awhile - the average tenure at this company is much higher than the average software company. There are plenty of people who have been there for 10-20 years - some even longer.

    - Very telecommuting friendly (at least most groups)

    - Nice folks - very few jerks to deal with in company

    - Clients are there for the long haul - average time an agency stays a Tiburon client is probably 10-15 years. And they never go out of business, which helps Tiburon's stability

    Cons

    - Below market pay

    - Low company growth potential

    - No stock options

    - The public safety market has a very long sales cycle and thus sales tend to be unpredictable which leads to periodic lay-offs when Sales doesn't meet its goals

    - Owned by PE firm which likely means company will get sold at some point in the next 1-5 years. This could be a good thing, depending on the acquirer, but depending on the job you are doing there, it could put you at risk (although some jobs would be safe in any acquisition)

    - Very little continuity in the executive team - the CEO and executive team have gone through a lot of churn in the last 5-6 years which underlines the difficulty of being successful in the public safety software market and the difficultly of dealing with a PE owner who is net genetically predisposed to think in the long term
