Current Employee – been working at Time Warner Telecom full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – "Family friendly" if you are in the right department at the right time and the right place. Otherwise, you are target territory regardless of what email was sent out telling managers to ignore or be o.k. with employees (even long time salaried ones) being late.
Cons – See above,,terrible middle management in the NOC and in NOC support environments.
Advice to Senior Management – Empower HR to do what is right concerning the above issues. Protecting horrible management because they have not done anything illegal is not the same as doing what is right. I am sure you know this and you still let it go on. This is not an issolated issue. Middle management is terrible, please do some 360 evaluations,,it will be cheaper than all the time wasted on the Leadership classes for these people that cannot change (and some in leadership roles that simply blew it off) and well spent on the many that have been ignored because they didn't have the right ___ to kiss at the time.

Pros – The company gets kudos for it's performance & resilience during bad times and equally high marks for beating competitors in it's sector. The leadership seems to be positioning the company very well for either a future merger or acquisition. Small but strong performance numbers year over year and growing profits in the same, slow steady pace. Leadership has an amazing grasp on the business and speaks the "positive talk" during quarterly calls. Too bad they don't know how to translate that into a better work culture. See Cons. Work flexibility is pretty good here with options to work remotely or from home.
Cons – One thing that explains the rather confusing and uninspired culture here is the fact that they can't decide whether they are a big player or still the tiny little CLEC. On the one hand, the leadership brags about taking on the big companies and about it's performance to the street. But then on the other hand they play the "poor little CLEC" card when explaining that the 2% annual increase is pretty average for companies in that sector and as a company, they didn't perform to expectations last year. Come on! Employees aren't stupid. This is so hypocritical it is embarrassing. Similarly, they have "decent" benefits and compensation for companies in their sector but these seem to look less attractive when compared against Century Link, Level3 or even AT&T. If you aren't a climber who is adept at using politics and manipulation to get ahead, you may not care for the environment here. On the other hand, if your spouse has a good job + benefits and you are just looking for something to get buy for a few years and don't really care to get ahead, you will fit right in with most of the population here. Career advancement opportunities overall are pretty poor.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire an HR chief who has an agenda for changing and improving the culture here. Employees are your future and the ones who got you where you are. Words are cheap if you don't follow up on promises and drive managers to perform and foster a creative work environment.

Current Employee – been working at Time Warner Telecom full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Reliable revenue stream to keep employees on payroll. No mass layoffs during recession.
Cons – Managers are encouraged to pay the lowest salary possible. One recent hire was hired for Level 1 work with near-entry level experience but was given Level 2 & 3 responsibilities (PNA 2). Unless you come into the company as a manager, you have a 3% chance of ever getting promoted. There is no "career path." There is only the chair you will sit in for the entirety of your career at tw. After years of employment, moving to another department is problematic as one such employee was told he "makes too much money" for another department. They are CHEAP. No raises over 2% EVER. Manager of Infrastructure has no guilt or shame to overwork employees and under pay them. Lots of turnaround.
Advice to Senior Management – This cheap strategy worked during the recession but we are approaching full employment and your hiring will suffer. TW has a disadvantage in that due to the numerous vendors, it is very difficult to support the network. One needs a full year of work just to work effectively. Your SLAs suffer due to your turn around. Wake up! Pay for talent and move employees up the ladder to keep them.

Current Employee – been working at Time Warner Telecom full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Flexible schedule, great people, interesting work
Cons – Disparity of salaries - if you don't negotiate a great salary going in, it's tough to keep up with the highest earners

Former Employee – worked at Time Warner Telecom full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – tw telecom is focused on business solutions only which are team developed and executed. This provides the end user with satisfaction for the services delivered are tried and true allowing for long term mutually beneficial customer relationships.
Also, tw telecom provisions all services on their owned and managed fiber optic network alleviating he middle man or "finger pointing."
The service platform consists of IP Centric offerings that take advantage of their robust service platform.
If one is fortunate enough to target and contract services for their sweet spot customer all involved will be rewarded.
Cons – Legacy markets excel at offering solutions due to on-net properties and fiber miles within thise legacy markets.
Expansion markets are somewhat hindered for lack of on-net buildings, build costs and fewer miles on network.
Advice to Senior Management – Management needs "no" advice from me for they continually turn in EBITDA positive numbers to shareholders and investors. After all, financial stability speaks fir itself!

Former Employee – worked at Time Warner Telecom full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Overall this company knows what it is doing because it has retained staff for numerous years. There are great people that work at this company, but there are other employees who need to be removed from employment (as with any company). Company rarely lays people off, which is good, but allows poor performers to remain in place and seemingly unchecked.
Cons – Company rarely surveyed employees during tenure. Increases and bonuses were abyssmal to the point of being non-existent (2% for "exceeds" ratings each year). If you're not in sales at this company, you won't go far--yet, the sales teams whom utilize engineers for sales never recognize the staff that supports them (until problems arise from poor designs, incorrect contracts, and so on).
Within the same departments, there are people performing the same jobs as others, but with lesser titles and less pay.
Top performers are rewarded with more work instead of compensation or praise. At tw telecom, hard work is rewarded with MORE work.
Employees at this company are on their own within an environment similar to "Lord of the Flies" [think Piggy, the conch, etcetera] Complete departmental "silos," finger pointing, and little next to no cooperation exists between departments due to low morale.
This company wants to operate as AT&T without the support headcount, modern systems, or competitive salaries.
Poor performers remain in place, often at higher pay/positions, because tw telecom will never let said persons go.. on the other hand, tw telecom will take years to promote top performers.
While strategies are great and living in the past might be unhealthy, taking your voice customers and teams for granted is disgraceful. This culture and mentality is exhibited from the highest management downward, until voice contracts are signed--then, it's up to the few/remaining support headcount to sell, support, and install said services (this includes integrated--voice and internet-- endeavors).
Homegrown contract/ordering systems circa early 1990s inhibit growth and seamless transitions for contracts.
Advice to Senior Management – Provide incentives for poor performers to leave the company, including management. It's quite obvious this company's management is asleep at the wheel.
