I worked at Timken full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They were are very nice and very straight forward with what was expected of you that day. Also very understanding when you asked to be moved to another position on the assembly line.

    Cons

Asking for a raise was almost always met with silence. Even as you become more valuable to the company by learning more positions on the assembly line your paycheck does not grow.

    Advice to Management

If you don't want to give your employees raises just tell them, don't tell them you'll look into it and then never get back to them.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Timken (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary is decent, mostly ethical culture and people

    Cons

Management tends to take a short term view in making business decisions, whether it's reducing inventory, forecast, or headcount sharply all at once. This tends to cause a bullwhip effects and leave the company unprepared on the upswings.

    Advice to Management

Timken management takes continuous improvement and cost reduction seriously but is often to reckless and quick to action, leading to increased firefighting on the back end and overworked associates.

  3. Decent Place to Work

    I worked at Timken full-time

    Pros

Very high quality, well engineered products, global presence, competitive salary and benefits, team oriented environment, and has a good internship program for students still in college.

    Cons

Senior mgmt/leadership very short term focused, low employee morale, no real career planning, many departments too lean to support the business plan, way too many meetings.

    Advice to Management

Be sure to have the proper resources in place before starting major projects/initiatives - the organization is too lean, improve employee morale, develop real career planning.

I worked at Timken full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People that you work with are great. Benefits are good, but not great. Bonus opportunities offset average base salary

    Cons

Management needs to do as it preaches. Too much good old boy opportunities. They fill jobs without posting them and even if they get posted most of the jobs are pre-filled before posting so it is just a formality.

    Advice to Management

Promote those that earn it instead of your friends

    Pros

Large organization, great people, competitive pay, generous bonus, 11 holidays!

    Cons

Heavy workload, new CEO's direction is not solid

    Advice to Management

You cannot grow by cutting people. You can't believe that top performers being dumped on will stay. You are allowing a lot of great institutional knowledge walk out the door because you being piling all the work on them is okay.

    Pros

    Cons

Measures of performance too subjective. Many good positions being filled by newly recruited college graduates instead of experienced, dedicated employees.
