I have been working at Timken full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with. Immediate peers and extended associate relationships keep me here. Leadership making sound acquisitions and managing a consistent global business plan that transformed company from an historic bottom quartile to top ten percent performer vs similar companies. High quality products. Acquired product lines provide competitive differentiated value. Ethics and integrity permeate the culture.

    Cons

Extensive reporting. Much content duplicated. Combined with work force reduction, translates into long workdays and weekend hours. Metric driven: anticipate a demanding environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

SAP implementation contributed to improved process control and overall efficiency related to supply chain, manufacturing, and related order management. It cannot and will never replace gaps in backend support. Hours required to keep up with extensive reporting and documentation compromise the capability to achieve superior performance in associates' primary job functions. Ensure that a pipeline of capable professionals are being trained to replace retirees, especially in the field.

    I worked at Timken

    Pros

The culture is amazing and the pay is very competitive! I interned for 1 summer and would go back to the company at anytime!

    Cons

There aren't really any downside beside the fact that the coffee is not free. Not a surprise because it is a manufacturing company.

    Pros

Pay and benefits are competitive and the upper management is very conservative with money. Good people at local plant level.

    Cons

Long hours at times, auto segment very stressful and driven to make some decisions which were not in the long term best interest of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember the people are the most important asset. Don't just say it, live it. Don't discount someone who has been there for a long time. They are valuable assets who deserve your praise and admiration.

I have been working at Timken full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Company can provide interesting work and challenges to employees who are willing to work hard.

Company does provide excellent training and educational benefits to employees to help them with their work and careers.

    Cons

Too much politics from the top of the organization down.

There are some good people in middle and upper management positions, but most of the people should not be in those roles and simply got into those positions because they are a member of Timken's "old boys' network".

The company does not do enough to retain good talent or provide good upward mobility. Succession planning is only done for top positions, but not mid-management levels.

With the forced upcoming split of the company, most employees are told what positions they are going into and do not have the ability to have a say in whether they will go into bearing or steel and what they will do. Some do not even know what their titles or salaries will be when they are forced to work in steel.

The company does not rid of employees who behave unethically. Their helpline, organizational advancement / HR and ethics departments are useless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rid of bad management and bad employees and replace them with those are able and willing to do things right.

Become more transparent and straight forward with people.

Walk the talk when it comes to a poor attempt at ethics.
