Not very good

Pneudraulics Systems Mechanic (Current Employee)
Oklahoma City, OK

I have been working at Tinker AFB full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood pay for mind numbing work

ConsThe good ole boy system is alive and well, at least in commodoties. People get promotions if they are good at sucking up to the boss. None of the Technical documents are up to date some are as out dated as the 1970's.

Advice to Senior ManagementClean up your act

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Very boring. I get paid to browse the internet all day.

Aerospace Engineer (Current Employee)
Oklahoma City, OK

I have been working at Tinker AFB full-time for more than a year

ProsThe people are nice and engines are interesting. There is never any need for overtime. Honestly there is never any need to work 20 hours.

ConsThe job is very boring and skills useful to the outside world aren't developed. More bureaucracy is being added every month for no reason. The threat of government shutdowns will always exist as long as tea partiers exist. Pay is insultingly low for starting engineers.

Good benefits, secure job until lately. Not good for growing as an engineer.

Aerospace Engineer (Current Employee)
Tinker AFB, OK

I have been working at Tinker AFB full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFederal benefits are pretty much second-to-none.
Typically, a government job is fairly secure.

ConsBudget uncertainty in future years, political instability, etc etc make the long-term career prospects more in jeopardy.
Don't expect to grow in knowledge and experience as an engineer, you'll only grow in knowledge and experience of the government system, which is only useful inside the government system or in the leech industries (the military-industrial complex).

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

It is frustrating that the amount of work heaped upon you and the pay isn't competetitive with private sector.

Maintenance Supervisor (Current Employee)
Oklahoma City, OK

I have been working at Tinker AFB

ProsThe government has good benefits package

Consther still exists the good ole boy system

Advice to Senior Managementmake it easier to get rid of deadbeat employees instead of taking an act of congress to get disciplinary actions through.
