Pros
We have been adding a lot of new clients, there is a kind of family atmosphere, people have a lot of fun here, we're really good at interactive. It's a solid 30 year old company that seems to be in it for the long term. And it's right here in beautiful Austin Texas!
Cons
It can be kind of disorganized and the past year has been marked by a fair amount of turnover.
Advice to Senior Management
Let's get more focused on exactly what kind of agency we want to be. Yvonne you can be a great role model for women in their careers we want more of that!
Pros
There are many very young talented individuals that have worked at Tocquigny. It is a great stepping stone job in order to get something solid on a weak or newly graduated resume. The location in the Frost Tower amazing but the rent is most likely hurting the cash flow which filters down to the staff.
Cons
Business model issues. Too much time spent on winning small accounts so the agency is always in a desperation mode. Communication is horrible and the respect among employees is non-existent. A lot of energy is spend on filling out time sheets along with mixed messages on how billable hours apply to performance reviews. This is a huge pain-point among all the employees.
There is a high turnover. Avg employment is 1 year and the majority of current employees are looking for another job." Despite the company being in business 20+ years there is not a clear direction on business goals. It's a "take-the-money-and-run" mentality toward clients. So much needs to change that there is a hopelessness among the team. There is a lot of running from one meeting to another and work gets done after hours and on weekends. A bonus plan is offered but the broken business model has prevented anyone from receiving anything.
Advice to Senior Management
Severe overhaul. Since the reviews of the company and conversation internally is so negative it's time to really listen to suggestions and take action. There are files of suggestions from departing employees but none are put into action. The leadership team needs mentoring from companies that understand how to develop a positive culture and profitable business model.
Pros
Great co-workers
Beautiful space
Central downtown location
Cons
Outrageously high employee turnover
Abusive environment
No leadership
Little to no experience in the areas of marketing being presented to clients
Jobs most of the work out to freelancers and other agencies
High client turnover
Not real expertise in any of their professed disciplines
Lack of overall company communication
No business development
No human resource department
Executives have no idea how to do or pitch any of the work being executed
Advice to Senior Management
Fix the shop, its broken
Learn the areas of marketing you are pitching
Try listening as much as you bark
Be leaders, innovators not order takers
Encourage and support the staff
Pros
a very cool office space; most staffers are friendly and get along well; being downtown is kinda cool
Cons
no clear agency vision; "measured approach--huh?"; analytics & reporting-joke; strategic planning-non-existent; terrible lack of new business leadership; staff accounts as do traditional agencies; provide senior account people admin support;
Advice to Senior Management
hire staff with agency experience; cut the slackers (primarily senior leadership); adjust titles and reporting; investigate unusually high turnover
Pros
Up and coming company, constantly on the cusp of new technology development and innovative ideas to strengthen marketing and advertising campaigns. Particularly adept at SEO. Very flexible options to produce work including working at home.
Cons
Lack of communication among employees since most rely on e-mail to pass work and messages despite open lay-out of office. Also, open office plan is troublesome at times when you can hear other co-workers blaring speakers or phone conversations.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep coming up with great ideas. The company has really grown and flourished thanks to great hiring practices, a warm atmosphere, and consistent and constructive feedback.
Pros
One thing that I really enjoy about interning at Tocquigny is the fact that whenever someone assigns me a project, they really take the time to explain how it fits into the bigger picture and how I can learn from it.
The people are absolutely amazing! Everyone is friendly and laid-back.
The office is way cool. It's a joy to walk into work every morning!
Cons
One has to be very proactive to get the most out of this internship. Sometimes people get so busy, they don't think about giving anything for you to work on. Therefore it is important to reach out and let people know you are available to help.
Advice to Senior Management
Sometimes managers are a bit short with the team. That can get intimidating. Overall, keep on being so engaged in the agency.
Pros
The people you work with on projects make working at Tocquigny worthwhile. They are creative, smart, funny and can become good friends.
Cons
The management of the company leaves something to be desired. There are little to no opportunities for growth and the compensation is poor.
Advice to Senior Management
Employees should be compensated better and encouraged to have a better work/life balance. There should be better internal communication, especially from management.
Pros
Youth driven, creative staff made for a fun atmosphere at times
Cons
-While working there it seemed management did not care about the health and well being of their staff - all management wanted was for you to work your fingers to the bone to make the client happy (I worked about 7days a week with NO THANK YOUs)
-Agency allowed the clients to run over them, setting unrealistic deadlines and treating agency employees like slaves - management did not stand up for their hard working employees which was a shame!
Advice to Senior Management
-Plan for smart growth - while I was working there it seemed that the senior management just hired on new positions as band aids for problems THEY THEMSELVES created with their clients due to their own mismanagement and dishonest communication styles and then just laid these folks off when the client eventually dropped them
-The turnover at this agency is INSANE - try to institute an employee retention plan, treat your employees well and pay them a fair salary for all the work they do
