Pros
Really good discounts on clothes, Cool people to work with, The music during Christmas was very repetitive. But the original playlist I enjoyed.
Cons
I don't like wearing the headset especially when people yell in my ear every 5 seconds. I didn't own any Tommy clothes so i had to put a magnet over my polo horse every time I worked
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure the people you put into leadership positions such as manager or floor supervisor know what they are doing. I think you could also strive for higher daily goals when it comes to sells.
Pros
PVH is very professional in how they manage the company. They create structure and discipline. They treat long term employees very well.
Cons
While PVH takes great care of their employees, some of the creativity of the prior Tommy Hilfiger Corporation was lost after their buy out.
Pros
Salary was decent
Nice bonuses
cute clothes
nice discount, including family
Cons
Insanely long hours, reducing a normal salary to little better than minimum wage
Paranoid culture - according to home office, every single employee is stealing
Zero communication between stores and home office
Advice to Senior Management
the District Manager I worked for was insane, and completely unfair, telling one store to do one thing as far as dress code, receiving procedures, etc., and telling another to do something completely different. No rules/training was communicated until you broke the rule/did something wrong, then it was an automatic write-up, disciplinary action, even firing. Some employees were favored extremely over others, for example, one member of management might be given every single weekend off during the summer while the others had to work not only every weekend, but every Sunday. My advice would be to improve corporate culture - there ARE honest employees out there, and you make everyone feel like a thief with your constant body searches. Get rid of district managers, and promote store managers up to those positions...at least they would be aware of what is actually needed at the store level.
Pros
Gives you an apertunity to learn and practice how to talk to people you never met before. You need these skills in any work inviroment. You learn in a perfesional way that your first impression is important to a costumer or a new job anywhere.
The skills you learn at tommy is an investment to your future.
Cons
Pay, having to meet your personal daily plan with no costomers. Being sent home for not making your daily goal. Assosiates feel like they have to stab each other in back to get to a costumor first to make your daily gaol. Being written up for not making your daily gaol.
Advice to Senior Management
We are humen when you tell some one to go home it makes them feel like they are not doing good job and kills murall. Teenagers need money just like adults. When assosiates leave crying that is disturbing. When your best assosiates quit because of no costumors and they do not meet goals is not good for buisness.
Pros
It taught me alot about the retail work and the people are always willing to teach you new things and provide with useful information to become successful.
Cons
Overnight shift and having to stay long periods of time after the store closes to clean up and constantly having visit for corporation.
Advice to Senior Management
Now was very nice and understanding if you needed for vacation time and friendly when needed to be and was a boss when needed
Pros
The pay is slightly better than other retail stores and the discount is the best I've ever encountered. This may or may not be a good thing-- I've seen employees basically give their paychecks back to the company. The job responsibilities are very simple as well. You'll have lots of young, outgoing co-workers, lots of students from the surrounding area. You'll easily get 30+ hours a week.
Cons
The management at my store is so unprofessional. It's clear that each manager has their favorites and if you're not one of them, they'll give you a hard time, every time. Some managers are on a constant power trip. I find this so infuriating because even if you're not doing anything wrong, they will find a reason to call you out. It's degrading.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire new, competent managers.
Pros
great discounts (60% off a limited number of items monthly)
decent pay rate
the managers tried to work with your schedule a little bit.
Cons
horrible at recognizing good jobs. not one raise in 2 years, while another employee got 4 cents. i have never dealt with that level of favoritism.(no promotion because i smiled to much)
Advice to Senior Management
stop playing favorites, start looking at your employees evenly or at least for their job qualities. not for who your friends are.
Pros
Great environment, with caring management, and detailed focus on business numbers. Restructuring with pvh has allowed for better information exchange.
Cons
Lack of supervision and nformation from upper management. More focused on the "culture" rather than the people who run their stores.
Advice to Senior Management
Information and commmunication are key to any relationship. Especially a work one. You have to develop a bond of trust with your managers at the store level. You can't just expect it based off of position
Pros
Strong company vision. Great benefits. Poised for tremendous growth.
Cons
Political in upper management. Payscale at or below average.
Advice to Senior Management
The layers are too top heavy and not enough support below the management levels.
Pros
brand recognition, get to bump into celebs all the time, and if you're really good friends with management you'll get paid a ridiculous amount of money for doing nothing. You dont even need to interview. Wardrobe allowance and employee discount is fantastic. 50% off sales items, and 65% of full price items. You also get discounts at the outlets in jersey or woodbury or any other Tommy locations in the US and possibly outside the country with proper documentation.
Cons
Do not work at the 5th ave location it is Survivor Island there. Unless youre good friends with management they will go out after you.
I recommend the SoHo location 1000 times.
Advice to Senior Management
there is no advice to management, there's no hope the only way to change it for the good is to get the DOL in there.... good luck.
