I worked at Topcon Medical Systems full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – There is minimal micro managing and a lot of creative freedom.
The facilities are large and in a beautiful location. (Nearby gym membership is subsidized)
There are bonus opportunities.
Many good people working there.
Cons – Annual downsizing has been the trend in recent years and unfortunately seniority and work performance are not considered in the decision making process.
Advice to Senior Management – Gain a deeper understanding of employee performance and growth.
Invest more into the software sector and you will see greater gains.

Pros – they have good health care and other benifit for employees, they have a relavant relaxing air, and good relationship in between employees and managers
Cons – not much innovation or motivation, lack of personal recognition

I worked at Topcon Medical Systems
Pros – Cutting edge technology;
Some good people still working there
Cons – Poor technical support due to management's failure to understand technical demands.
Very low pay compared to industry average;
No career growth, unless you talk your way through rather than do even outstanding work;
Lack of recognition for hardworking & dedicated people;
Company is in large driven by the sales dept. and they earn the most. Engineering, tech support and production are not allowed to provide any direction in even technical matters, unless sales approves;
Company is very political, and with a top->down approach;
Employees are exploited and if they try to discuss problems that bother them, ultimately they're marked for elimination - everyone is very expandable;
Most good technical talent has already left or is planning to leave soon.
Human Resources is management's extension and cannot be trusted in reporting any problems.
Gossip shapes employees reputation, not their actual achievements that benefit company and customers.
Advice to Senior Management – Current management will not appreciate nor understand any advice. For years they've been worrying only about coping with picking up support calls, not understanding anything required to resolve those calls. You cannot manage people in technical teams properly unless you have enough technical skill to understand their daily work demand, and only then you can successfully understand boundaries and create appropriate strategies. Reports and statistics are only as good as the people doing them, and in Topcon, some people in operations and management responsible for reporting technical progress do very dry statistics that don't reflect reality which includes dynamic changes and human factor. Management is so withdrawn and above everyone, they cannot learn to recognize strengths and weaknesses of individual employees to properly utilize them. Management doesn't care to investigate any controversial claims, but take for granted what the hear and label employees based on limited contact and gossip. Some managers are known to place blame for their incompetence on their subordinates (finding scapegoats).

I have been working at Topcon Medical Systems
Pros – Overall family culture in the company; relatively good compensation for the similar position; relatively good job security, and nice colleagues and supervisor; nice new building that accommodates the whole company in a very nice area;
Cons – long commuting, so so vacation package, somewhat lack of growth opportunities, less than satisfactory communication between management and employees, projects management can be better
Advice to Senior Management – Improve the communication with employees; boost moral and make employee proud of their job and the company; more granularity for promotion/compensation raise based on fairness and performance

I worked at Topcon Medical Systems full-time for more than a year
Pros – Back-office warehouse employees excellent and very dedicated
Cons – enviornment of mis-trust and poor communication between upper management and employees.
Advice to Senior Management – need more relevant upper management Industry experience in leading teams to profitability. Internally they are a dealer network but cannot make transition to external sales company
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
