It was stressful wondering by whom and when I was going to be stabbed in the back with a narrow point of view.

I have been working at Torrance Memorial Medical Center full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay rate is fair. They are somewhat organized. They have a lot of mandatory meetings if you like that sort of thing.

    Cons

Very stressful, daily assignments changed often if there was a call in. They don't have a back-up plan in place for reassigning patients if there is a call-in. They write you up at the drop of a hat depending on how much they like you. They give you sick time then write you up if you go over their quota. They don't consider changes unless they come up with the idea. When you've been written up, they are the judge and jury. They don't consider your explanation or point of view of what really happened. Was hired full time then called the Friday before starting to tell me I could only start per diem and later apply for full time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making all the decisions as to what computer program, computer, and phone the field nurses are going to use. Because when these continue to fail for some reason this adds unnecessary stress to the nurse's day from that time on. Don't jump to the conclusion that the employee is lying if they have a different point of view on the situation.

I have been working at Torrance Memorial Medical Center full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Active participant in the community

    Cons

Home Health and Hospice need to be separate from hospital departments. Style of care is much different than inpatient and requires better understanding by management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Separate from hospital and each other (HH and Hospice).

A nice-looking facility that unfortunately lacks professionalism between doctors/management and staff.

I worked at Torrance Memorial Medical Center part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Decent cafeteria, newer-looking buildings/rooms, easy parking.

    Cons

(Some) doctors rude to staff, management not present, charge nurses who have no business being in a leadership role, nurses who don't want to follow new 'evidence-based practices' because it's something new and requires learning. Many long-term staff unhappy with the way charge RNs/management play favorites.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff, choose your lead RN's wisely - they should be role models!!!

I worked at Torrance Memorial Medical Center part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It is a great place to work. Facilities are moderate to new. Majority of staff members are friendly.

    Cons

Management does not boost productivity. Changing procedures and systems without consulting staff members or other departments which causes conflict. Always rewarding the people who are less skilled and the more skilled are not as valued.
