Pros
News is fast paced and exciting business. Everyone is very professional and intelligent.
Cons
Too many middle managers. Too many people scrambling to cover theirs own asses as the industry declines. No respect for expertise. Too many competing personalities and directions.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember: news. Local.

Pros
no competition - the single largest circulation - identified fully with the city - has brand recall - deals with local issues very well
Cons
no recognition of value provided by employees - it is all a few people's agenda - everyone else is considered dumb - no way to run a knowledge business - there is greater recognition of employee value in IT firms
Advice to Senior Management
listen to people - they are smarter than you think - treat knowledge workers with respect even if you can't pay them what they deserve -
